Shows how crazy football is with Ipswich now. losing in on £90m in transfer fees and loan fees on top of that. They so far have got in less than £2m in transfers out
I really could not see City paying that sort of money if we went up.

It's a huge gamble but without spending big it's really difficult to stay up.
Fulham spent big when they went up with us last time and got relegated but used the parachute money wisely and are now reasonably well established in the Premier League.
I remember our club getting heavily criticised under Warnock for spending so little when we got promoted.
Spending huge sums of money certainly doesn't guarantee survival but not spending enough will almost guarantee that you'll go down.

I had a train of thought the other day that IF we were to go up, would we be spending anywhere near this?
OK, £90 mill is probably a bit excessive but its a fact that if a team wants a chance of staying up they've got to spend a very decent amount and my honest opinion is that we wouldn't
Sure we may spend a few mill on a handful of players but unless we were to spend £30m+ I cant see us or any team for that matter staying up

Massive gamble.

What gets me is how much they have paid for people with no experience in the premier league at all and then Delap with 2 games many years back. They look like they are going down the potential route and maybe make a profit if they go down. However paying near £50m on two players without premier league experience is a gamble

If we were really gambling to go up
We would keep McGuinness

Well last season teams promoted spent little so got relegated.... perhaps they've gone in-between and hope they stay up? It's not just about players manager comes into equation as well.... think they will survive but not by much.

Not if we invested the transfer fee to a better player.

Huge outlay but maybe their £10 million on Szchmodics will pay off if the lad clicks at that level.
If he's worth £10 million, is McGuinness worth the same?

Personally I don’t think it’s that much of a gamble
Spending say £100 million on 5 or 6 players might be enough to keep you up but if not and you do get relegated if they are the right type of players you can sell some or all of them for the same price or in some cases even more than you bought them for
Getting the right players is sometimes not that easy though!!

Only one they bought that is safe bet is szmodic as if relegated he's more than proven at championship level! Loans don't count as will go back anyway ....... rest a gamble but nothing new there.
