Deal up to 10 million being reported…

Mon Aug 19, 2024 11:05 am

For Mark Mcguiness.

No one can possibly say the club were wrong for selling him.

This is great business for the club and he is no where near that value.

I would assume we are getting around 7 million upfront with a few million in ad ons.

Let’s hope we also reinvest in a striker though

I am one of those fans that dont want him to go but for 10 mill then we'd be silly to turn it down

3 mill will go on that defender (if rumours of fee are to be believed)

Lets use the rest for a striker

Although I don't know why we haven't utilised the loan market yet?

I’m actually flabbergasted at the fact they are paying £10m for him. Whilst he is a decent championship CB, he’s certainly not been a stand out player for us. He’s more of a Warnock type defender who can’t really play with the ball, but is solid aerially.
This has to be the best bit of outgoing transfer business the club have ever done. Because no matter how many people say this shows lack of ambition, there’s absolutely no way any of those would say he’s worth anywhere near £10m.

Clearly he is at that value because Luton are paying it! Lol

Its the "up to " that worries me. A fair chunk will be "ifs" and money that others will get

If Luton are promoted- 1 in 4 chance at best according to the bookies
If McGuiness plays a certain amount of games this season. Injuries can wreck that
Arsenal will get 25 % percent apparently
Probably includes agents fee as ell

Take off the fee we are paying up for our new defender and we wont be left with that much.

As you say assumed ?

We received £4.5mill
Plus money if Luton are promoted to Premier League
And money if McGuinness plays 25 games this season

And Arsenal do have a sell in clause

Does anyone know if the "Luton get to the prem" is this season, or expires after 'xx' seasons?

Arsenal are set to bank around £2million after their former academy graduate Mark McGuinness joined Luton Town from Cardiff.

McGuinness left Arsenal in 2021 for Cardiff after spending 10 years with the Gunners academy setup.

Included in that deal was a sell-on clause, which was understood to be 30 per cent of any profit Cardiff made when selling McGuinness.

Arsenal are now set to reap the rewards of that after McGuinness completed a £10m move to Luton this week.

The Gunners are understood to be banking around £2m from the centre-back’s move, which will boost their finances.

Arsenal have worked over the years to include sell-on clauses in deals involving academy players leaving the club.
They made around £4m earlier this summer after Omari Hutchinson left Chelsea for Ipswich as part of a deal worth £22m.

A sell-on clause has also been included in the deal that saw Mika Biereth move to Sturm Graz for £4m in July.

If that’s correct, that means that Luton must be paying around £6.5 - 7m as the signing on fee and agent fees can’t be something that Arsenal can claw back.
