Cardiff City Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Jesper Daland.

The central defender joins from Cercle Brugge K.S.V.

Cardiff have paid £1mill and a further £1mill if Cardiff are promoted to the Premier League.

24-year-old Daland has penned an initial four-year contract with the Bluebirds, until the summer of 2028.

Jesper began his career with IK Start in his home country of Norway, before moving to Cercle Brugge in 2021. He made over 90 appearances in the Belgian top-flight, including six in the current campaign.

Speaking at the Vale Resort, Jesper said: “I'm ready to go. I've played a few games already this season. I'm very excited and looking forward to the journey ahead.

“I've heard a lot about what will hopefully be my first game. It's a real derby. I can't ask for a better game to start. I'm looking forward to the atmosphere. Obviously, the game is special for the fans and for everyone here.

“I'll do everything I can for this Club.”

City boss Erol Bulut added: “We are delighted with Jesper’s arrival. We tried to get him in January, but it was not possible, as his then club would not let him go. He is a great defender, but also good with the ball in the build-up. He will help us a lot.

“He can play from the left side and use both feet, which is very important for us. The fans will enjoy him.

“He is fit and ready!"

I think he will start on Sunday. Clearly been brought in as first choice.

Signed early in the week so will have plenty of time to train with the rest of the squad.

Already played six games this season so his fitness won’t be an issue.

As the touch map in figure 17 shows, though, Daland gets involved quite high up the pitch. He is a centre-back who’s happy to provide options in advanced areas and support the attack.

Furthermore, with his 55.8 percentile rank in dribbles per 90, he’s comfortable bringing the ball out into midfield — and even beyond that — from left centre-back, driving into dangerous areas from where he can help his team break into the final third.

Daland possesses impressive speed and ball control when driving forward in possession. His carrying out from the back is definitely a tool that his team can and should make use of. Overall, if Norway are to achieve success in this tournament, they’ll need Daland on top of his game as the apparent Monaco target is one of their key players.
