Selling club

Tue Aug 20, 2024 6:13 pm

I started supporting City in the 60's and although I was a bit young to know exactly what was going on, my memories of that period were of my uncle and his mates moaning about selling our best players. All saying lack of ambition etc etc after we sold Peter Rodriquez, Barry Hole and a few others who could make a difference.
The first notice I took of all this was when we sold Gareth Williams who was our captain and midfield powerhouse. Since then we have a history of selling our best players and after 60 years you just shrug your shoulders and get on with supporting the team. Seeing McGuiness go is no surprise whatsoever but what does piss me off is that he's gone to a club which I consider to be far smaller than us, but they obviously have the ambition to use their parachute payments well.
Not to worry, players and managers come and go but we all carry on supporting. :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Mcguiness our best player ? , he was in a defence that leaked 70 goals last term , decent enough but I would say very replaceable

To be fair wez, he was out injured for a lot of that, and our defense has leaked 7 goals already this season

He played 50% of our games didn't he ? , I'm hoping the new lads are an upgrade

He did, but at the end of December (I'm not sure how many games he missed or exact date he got injured) we had a goal difference of +1 and had conceded 27.

The majority of goals were shipped between January and May, with McGuiness not playing due to injury.

Almost every club in the world are a selling club.

Luton have trebled McGuinness’ wages, we couldn’t compete with that.

We might have been a selling club in the past but that's hardly been the case under Tan. We have overpaid for many players and sold them for a lot less or worse paid them off.

It’s a risk signing him for that price and wages. He certainly has potential and Luton have the parachute money so it’s calculated but could go either way.
