Mark McGuinness when he was told City were selling him he did not want to go.
As time went by and the board wanted the sale and Mick Hartford looked after him for 2 days, Mark was persuaded that Luton was a club going places and all working together from the top to the bottom.
The Slough-born defender believes Kenilworth Road is the ideal place to progress his career after three years in the Championship at Cardiff.
“At Luton the players and coaching staff, to catering and everyone – everyone seem to be on the same wavelength and everyone wants to be successful together.”
MARK MCGUINNESS:
“Cardiff was a great platform for me to go and develop, and get to that next stage and that next level – and for me, Luton Town was the perfect next stage.”
“I think it’s the whole culture, it’s the whole of Luton Town. It really suits me as a player and as a person. I’m excited to be here already.”
“It’s one day in, but I can sense the vibe and the positivity. From all the way from the top to the bottom, from the players and coaching staff, to catering and everyone – everyone seem to be on the same wavelength and everyone wants to be successful together.”

Commanding centre-half Mark McGuinness has become the Hatters’ latest summer recruit, joining for a significant undisclosed fee from Cardiff City, subject to international clearance.
Boosting the Town’s options in defensive areas, the 23-year-old arrives at Kenilworth Road following three seasons in south Wales where he became a fans’ favourite for his towering presence in the Bluebirds’ backline.
Town boss Rob Edwards says the 6ft 4in Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has been a long-term target and is excited at the prospect of the added competition for places in defence.
“He’s a big, big player for us – and a signing which shows our intent,” Edwards said. “He might be only 23 but he’s a leader. We see him as a big influence in the dressing room and on the pitch.
“He’s had a great upbringing, played lots of games, and is a threat in both boxes. He wants to defend but he can play, too.
“Last year it showed that we needed bodies in defence, but now, with Amari’i Bell back and Reece Burke and Mads Andersen resuming training, we’re starting to look really strong in that area.
“Mark believes we’re the right club for the next step in his career. He wants to play in the Premier League and he sees us as the opportunity to do that, so this further highlights how strong of an acquisition he is for the football club.”
Speaking to LTFC+ after his first session on The Brache grass with Tom Lockyer this afternoon, Mark said: “I’m excited to be here. It’s been nice to see the boys today and get a feel of the camp.
“It was great to be involved, and straight in with the main man and the skipper – who better to go out and get introduced to than Tom?”

Poor decision from us, from Mcguiness point of view a great new manager to play for, always
comes across well.

Great decision. He didn't wanna leave but that's football. I wish him well but it's clear to me that he's not the type of CB that the gaffer wants going forward. We have have also brought in his replacement and made a handsome profit. that's football too.
The new guy may or may not be as good as Macca only time will tell and don't forget when we first signed Macca there were a few on here saying he was shit and needed to be loaned out.

Well, that’s what they want you to believe, the first few days he had NO interest in going.
As time went on and Luton chatted to him more, he was pulled in
If he wanted a fresh challenge, well I thought this season was going to be big and a fresh challenge as we are really going for it?
His heart was with his, Luton also had Mick Hartford with him for two days making him feel really welcome and wanted.
The Truth is, The Hierarchy wanted money in and when that happens your in your way.

For me, it speaks volumes.... "Everyone's on the same wavelength' and want to be successful,,,, and " The whole Culture".
Best of luck Mark.

Cardiff City Received £4.5mill
Plus £1mill if Luton are promoted to the Premiership
Plus City receive more money once McGuinness has played 25 games this season for Luton Town
Arsenal did get their money as a clause was put in when he McGuinness Signed for Cardiff City
https://dailycannon.com/2021/06/trae-co ... transfers/Don’t forget on the near £10 mill package deal:
That included McGuinness Signing on fee
That included big agent fees
That included McGuinness wages have tripled in a 4 year contract

Sounds like he did want to leave . Just hope the new defender is as good as they think seen as they tried to sign him in January according to Bulut.

I bet that’s pretty much what Daaland said when he joined us, as do all pros when they sign for someone.

If that’s right, all the best Mark and we move on.

Think most people would won't to move on if they were told their wages were going to triple and they were going to get a large fee for doing so.

Good luck to him. He is wasting his time with us.

Ive been told he got offered a large amount more and wanted to leave, so i cant blame him for that.
This has been ongoing for some time and Cardiff turned down 4.5m at the start of the summer

If that’s the case, good luck and we move on. Come on Jesper!!!

Very good player and wish him well…..only still relatively young so will only get better.
May well end up in the Premier League but don’t see it being with Luton ….and they are certainly not a bigger club but probably more stable compared to us .

Good luck to the lad.
He did his job, did it well and was a professional.
If I got offered 3 times my salary to move to a rival company, I'd take it.

“Cardiff was a great platform for me to go and develop, and get to that next stage and that next level – and for me, Luton Town was the perfect next stage.”I didn't want MM to leave as I think he was our best defender but that comment is the most depressing thing to come out of this transfer........"Luton Town was the perfect next stage". Shows where we are as a club

It's the same spiel every player says when moving from one club to another, shows nothing about where we are as a club.
Does anyone thinking that believe that we should have trebled his pay & given him a million to stay? I don't think so.

It makes no difference if it's just spiel or not from MM, the statement is correct, that's what depresses me.

Unless it was Swansea

The naivety on here sometimes amazes me.
He didn't write any of that, his agent and Lutons media people wrote it.
Our "we want you to stay" manager wants ball playing, defensively inferior if be it, center halves. McGuiness is scared of the ball. I am amazed he came through the Arsenal system he is so limited in the ball retention department. Cracking championship no-nonsense defend first defender. He will suit and improve them as their fanbase knows what they are and accepts it.
We are all in on Bulut now, lets hope the faith most of you have is justified.
