The argument that Ramsey shouldn’t start

Sat Aug 24, 2024 6:55 pm

Seen a few say they think Ramsey shouldn’t start tomorrow.

I think this is complete madness.

He’s fit enough to start.

Have his performances been below par in the first two games? Yes.

But if there’s one first team player we have who understands the importance of this game, it is Aaron Ramsey.

His performance against them at home last season was brilliant. He looked in total control of the game.

For me, he has to be part of the starting line up.

He looked unfit and out of character in the opening game but haven’t seen the second but got injured.Probably starts if fit enough.

I think the injuries last season have really taken their toll on him.

Against Burnley he was part of a midfield that completely dominated a side that’s favourite for promotion

I think he should start. Hopefully when el Ghazi gets fit they can make a good partnership. And be the heart of the team.

Rambo is the standout player on his day and (fingers crossed) he appears to have shrugged off his injuries of last season and should be the first player on the team sheet. Anyone who thinks he is over the hill is writing him off too soon and he will relish the opportunity of playing in this local derby against the Cabbage Patch Dolls

Would also like to see Reindorf start but either way, we finally have talent on the bench who can make a difference when/if required in any game this season

I'm torn on this if I'm honest.

I don't want us to rely on Ramsey, but I also feel like he's the one that's going to get the team going, and show some passion.

He was here when we had a team that were always bang up for this game.

Getting that passion into the team and the players knowing what this game means is sometimes like having an extra man on the pitch.

The other issue is that Ramsey is the one player that the Jacks fear, despite claiming not to !!

They know that in the first derby last season he absolutely dominated that game.

Yes there is a question over his fitness but we have to start him as long as he has 45-60 minutes in him.

Until El Ghazi is fit we don’t have a player to conjure something out of nothing except Rambo so he’s well worth risking today in my opinion.

Rambo barely kicked a competitive ball for 9 months, his fragility means we can not blast him in reserve U23 games so we just have to take our time with him and show patience. Of course, he starts if fit enough.

Who would you like use to rely on?
I am all for the local boy being relied upon to fire us up for derby.

Must start for his big game experience and ball control.

However he has not got the speed or fitness to support our striker in that 10 role. and Bulutball therefore isolates our striker. I expect no different today as Ramsey will get sucked into midfield to combat the tippy tappy. It’s so predictable. Because of this system, the lack of fight at the theirs last time and our defence lately I’m dreading today.

Praying for at least a draw.

I mean throughout the season - I don't want us to rely solely on Ramsey to be the one that gets us going.

Over the season he's going to have to be rested, so we need another player who will get the players going like Ramsey can.

For today, absolutely rely on Ramsey. Local lad who has been here and done it. He knows what it means.

I see you point now and mostly agree.
If el ghazi can be 75%as good as we all hope then him and Ramsey would be the two to carry the team over the season. Take the pressure of Ramsey as you say he needs to be rested
