My VIEW: TONIGHT WHAT A GAME / EIGHT GOAL THRILLER

MY VIEW: WHAT A GAME : A WONDER GOAL BY RUBIN COLWILL FOR THE EQUALISER / BUT THEN AN 18 YR OLD FOR SOUTHAMPTON SCORED A GREAT GOAL TO PUT THEM BACK IN THE LEAD:

EIGHT GOAL THRILLER.

First competitive starts for @MReindorf9, @MalachiWalcott5 & Adeteye Gbadehan.

Rubin Colwill not only scored but helped Robertson make it 3-3.

At 3-3 Cardiff pressed forward and Robertson looked good, creating chances for Ashford.

It was excitement all night, end to end

In the last 5 mins Southampton put 10 men up and bang scored 2 late goals.

City players can be proud of themselves.

FIRST HALF:
It was coming 10th min: GOAL! (Fernandes 10)
He is played the ball just outside the box and shifts it on to his right before hitting it low past Goutas and a diving Alnwick into the bottom corner. Defence was just opened up.

21st min: Rubin Colwill GOAL! Cardiff City 1-1 Southampton (Colwill 21)
What a goal! Colwill!
It was going to take some magic to restore parity and boy didn't Colwill produce it! He belts one from 25 yards and Lumley is rooted to the ground as he watches the ball smash the underside of the crossbar and into the net.

30mins: GOAL! Cardiff City 1-2 Southampton (Amo-Ameyaw 30)
The lad is only 18 years old
This was a stunning goal. Saints restore their lead.
The interplay leading up to that goal really was a joy to watch for the neutral. Started by Charlie Taylor and some neat, rapid passes sees space open up for Amo-Ameyaw on the edge of the box and he curls one beyond Alnwick.

Over all Southampton were by far the better team, but City never collapsed and can feel happy with that performance with so much inexperience.

SECOND-HALF: Robertson on for Gbadehan.

48th min: GOAL! Cardiff City 2-2 Southampton (Edwards own goal 48)
Goal Cardiff! A drilled Cardiff cross from Conte is parried out by Lumley and ricochets off Edwards into the back of the net.

55min City 2-3 Southampton (Archer 55)
Southampton build-up patiently before a neat ball into Archer sees him roll Goutas and smash a left-footed shot past Alnwick from close range.

57th min: GOAL! Cardiff City 3-3 Southampton (Robertson )
Colwill lifts a lovely cross to the back post and Conte produces a calm head back across goal and Robertson scores his first goal for the club with a first-time shot from close range!

Why? Even Sky Sports asked why??
63rd min: Colwill off, Twose on.

78th min: Jeffries on for Kpakio.

GOAL! Cardiff City 3-4 Southampton (Bree 90)
Goal. Bree with a stunning volley.
The ball drops to the right back 20 yards from goal and he catches it sweetly, and it flies into the top corner.

GOAL! Cardiff City 3-5 Southampton (Archer 90+3)

Archer slots home.

Plenty of positives to take out of that.

Colwill MOTM.

Robertson very very good.

Reindorf deserves to be on the bench on Saturday.

Obviously disappointed to lose, but everything else is positive tonight.

15m. Their first scorer cost 12m. Their CM is on loan from Chelsea, cost 25m.

That's 3 players over 50m!!! In their second string!

We did well.

I agree I thought it took our edge off going forward we had a more attacking threat and saints were terrified of him having ball the 60 mins or so he was on. Constant looking to drive forward or play intelligent balls. Really enjoyed tonight's game though more than I have for 99% of the games last couple of years

Was proud of the youngsters last night, but we didn't deserve to ship 2 goals in time added. I also think we looked good when we were pressing high, but we didn't do it for long enough. Very encouraging that we seem to have players who can step up if needed. :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:
