Middlesbrough could make another summer signing before the close of the transfer window this week.

Middlesbrough have made seven signings in the 2024 summer transfer window so far.

Michael Carrick has managed to address every outfield position in his squad with the seven new additions at the Riverside.

Luke Ayling will provide cover at right-back, Aidan Morris has strengthened the midfield, Delano Burgzorg and Micah Hamilton will improve the flanks, Harley Hunt is a promising centre-back and Tommy Conway is an excellent centre-forward signing.

Most recently, Middlesbrough signed Neto Borges for £1.3m from Clermont Foot 63 on August 27th.

After Lukas Engle’s shambolic display vs Stoke City in the second round of the League Cup, the Brazilian getting up to speed in the North East cannot come soon enough.

Middlesbrough play Cardiff City this weekend and Boro fans are no doubt desperate to see Borges start ahead of Engel.

Erol Bulut: “Talks about Boro match”

“Especially in the 2nd half against Swansea we were great.”

Erol concluded: “I hope and I wish for Saturday that we can deliver that performance over 90 minutes and even from yesterday’s second half, what we delivered and in the second half against Swansea.”

“That is the direction that we want to play and how we want to play, but of course, we have to split it in 90 minutes, not only in 45 or 60 minutes.”

“For sure, it will not be an easy run against Middlesbrough. They have a really good team. We saw the match and how they played against Swansea, it was really good. We have to be careful with everything.

“We cannot say that we will go out and have a run and everything is finished, we have to be concentrated from the first minute to the last minute. We will have our chances, then we have to use it.”

He'll pick the same team that started against the JB. Same setup, same tactics, same formation, same scenario. We''ll go 1 or 2 nil down before he brings on the more attacking players who should have started and we might scrap a draw.

I'd pick this:

Horvath

NG
Chambers
Daland
Bagan

Robertson
Ramsey
Colwill

Tanner
Wilock
Robinson

Rav van den Berg and Jonny Howson will be assessed before Middlesbrough travel to Cardiff City on Friday afternoon, with the pair pushing to be available.

Boro are struggling for defensive options right now, with Dael Fry and Darragh Lenihan also out injured, while Tommy Smith and Alex Bangura are more longer-term. With Van den Berg missing the last two games, Luke Ayling was forced to play centre-back against Portsmouth, while 17-year-old Harley Hunt made his debut in the midweek defeat to Stoke City.

With the trip to Cardiff this weekend the last before a fortnight break for internationals, there was only ever a realistic prospect of Van den Berg, Howson and Riley McGree being available of the players missing of late. However, McGree will not make the trip now, with Carrick not wanting to risk him, and he's also not included in the Australia squad for the upcoming international matches either.

Updating on potential returns for the Cardiff trip, Carrick said: "Riley has been a little bit slower than we'd hoped so he won't be ready for this week. Jonny is pushing me like crazy but we'll have to make a decision there. Rav we'll have to see tomorrow, that's a bit touch and go."

Boro's defensive woes of late are prompting a late foray into the summer transfer market. Boro are working to try and sign a centre-back before Friday's 11 pm deadline, with a permanent transfer for George Edmundson being explored, while there are alternative loan options available too. But needing to be registered by midday on Friday to play any part at Cardiff, it seems unlikely that Boro will have a new debutant in South Wales at this stage.

Van den Berg's injury came at the worst possible time for Boro and left Matt Clarke as their only fit centre-half. Carrying over from longer-term injuries suffered last season, both Fry and Lenihan have been unable to properly rejoin the group this season, despite playing some part in pre-season.

Asked for a little more detail on the pair and their issues, Carrick explained: "On Dael and Darragh, they've both been out for a long period of time. They came back and trained around the group in pre-season but both picked up small injuries we have to manage and be patient with.

"Dael has had a bit of a calf problem he's coming back from and Darragh has had tendinitis in and around his achilles. Thankfully it's not the issues they were out with before but it has stopped them from coming back as quickly as they would have liked and we would have liked. After the international break, we'll try to get them back in and around it as soon as we can."

This is the actual lineup and I’m happy to see Robertson in with Ramsey a little higher up the pitch

I’m disappointed Rubin isn’t in but as we saw last weekend and again (with an excellent hour or so) midweek, he may have a better impact off the bench; but I believe his time is coming and he will be a permanent fixture in our team

Enjoy the game! Not there (again) today but will be watching on the TV and posting…! :ayatollah:

A decent start from the Bluebirds who are trying to impose their authority on the game

Silly yellow card for Siopis (kicking the ball away) which now leaves him a tad exposed

Ramsey gives the ball away twice in quick succession and it lands to Azaz, who hits one from 25 yards, but it's straight at Horvath.
