What happened to our 17 targets this summer?

Lazaros Rota
The AEK Athens right-back was linked with a possible switch to Cardiff back in May. With uncertainty hanging over Perry Ng, and little senior back-up, a link with a player plying their trade in Greece seemed to make sense.

Indeed, Erol Bulut seemed to have forensic knowledge of his contractual situation when we quizzed him on it before the end of last season, so he certainly seemed like someone the Bluebirds boss had taken a look at.

However, the 27-year-old stayed put in Greece and did not seal a move away.

Musa Drammeh
Another player who was linked with Cardiff before last season ended, the 22-year-old had been praised for his performances for Sevilla B. However links to the player never really seemed to stack up.
Eventually, the powerful forward signed for Scottish Premiership side Hearts. He is yet to feature for the Edinburgh club.

Nat Phillips

For me and the majority of fans plus Glen Williams, we all thought he was outstanding for us and he would be one of our main targets.

Cardiff sources and Media Wales were keen originally to stress that a deal for the Liverpool centre-back to return this season could not be ruled out.

The centre-back impressed during his half-season loan with the Bluebirds and said he would consider a potential return after talks with new Reds boss Arne Slot.

However we were then told Cardiff looked elsewhere in the form of Calum Chambers and a return for Phillips looked unlikely, as Liverpool were only interested in selling him for £4mill.

Championship rivals Derby County capitalised on signing him on a loan deal at Pride Park.

Theo Bair
After a quiet start to his career, striker Theo Bair gained admirers after a breakthrough season with Motherwell last year, during which he scored 15 league goals.
A number of clubs were reported to be interested in the 25-year-old Canada international, but he opted for the French top flight, eventually signing for Auxerre.

Kasey McAteer
Erol Bulut confirmed Cardiff had placed Kasey McAteer on a list of targets early on in the summer, with the Bluebirds favouring a permanent move owing to their shift in strategy this summer.

Leicester were unwilling to allow McAteer to leave permanently following his eye-catching season in the Championship last term. Cardiff as well as Hull City were heavily linked with the winger, but he eventually opted to stay with the Foxes, bidding to make his mark in the Premier League this term.

Jordan Williams
Another link which didn't quite sit right at the time was Jordan Williams, a right-back who had been a stalwart at Barnsley for a number of years.

Again there were questions over the right-back position, an area of the squad in which Cardiff didn't actually add if you don't count Chambers, so logic perhaps dictated that there might be something in it.
However that rumour was quickly squashed when the 24-year-old signed for Portsmouth.

Kieffer Moore
Thankfully, in the eyes of many supporters, the Kieffer Moore transfer saga was put to bed very early in the summer.

All the noises as the transfer window opened was to "keep an eye" on Moore, from a Cardiff fans' perspective, which, after the failed attempts to bring him back in the previous two windows, was agonising.

But Sheffield United moved decisively early in the window to sign the Wales striker, nabbing his signature back in July, with Moore signing a three-year permanent deal at Bramall Lane.

Connor Barron
While Cardiff would eventually sign Alex Robertson from Manchester City, the name Connor Barron was pretty appealing for some City supporters. Sign up to our Cardiff City newsletter here.

But there were lots of teams interested in the 22-year-old, who had made a name for himself at Aberdeen, and Scottish giants Rangers eventually got the deal over the line.

Marc Leonard
Another name which cropped up more than once during the summer window was Marc Leonard. Another midfielder, this time with Premier League side Brighton, who had steadily amped up his reputation with consecutive loan spells with Northampton Town.

The 22-year-old seemed destined to move to a Championship club, but Birmingham City eventually swooped and tied him down to a deal at St Andrew's.

Loga Tómassyni
One that came completely out of the blue. Icelandic journalist Orri Rafn Sigurdarson reported that the Bluebirds were monitoring left-back Logi Tomasson earlier in the summer.

Cardiff's sister club KV Kortrijk were also understood to be keen on Tomasson, 23, a left-back who plays in the Norwegian top flight with Strømsgodset.

However, the player eventually stayed at Strømsgodset, even though they were said to have turned down a £569,000 bid for the player.

Valgeir Lunddal
The same reporter claimed that Valgeir Lunddal, a 22-year-old right-back for Swedish side Hacken, was a target for City.

Another right-back so it gave the reports some credence, even if Cardiff sources played down the link at the time, however Lunddal eventually signed for German second-tier side Fortuna Düsseldorf for a reported €300,000.

Edgardo Fariña
Cardiff were reportedly one of a number of clubs interested in Panama centre-back Edgardo Fariña. Burnley, Watford as well as Dutch side Feyenoord were all supposedly among the chasing pack after he played a big role in helping Panama reach the quarter-finals of the Copa America.

The defender, who stands 6ft 4ins, did eventually seal a move away from South American club Independiente, moving to Russian top-flight side Khimki.

Millenic Alli
Millenic Alli's name didn't really tally up with what Cardiff were looking for in the summer. The striker had done well in the National League with Halifax and signed for League One side Exeter City back in January - and he has gone on to do well there.

Despite supposed interest from the Championship, the 24-year-old Irishman ended up staying with Exeter this season.

Jeremy Sarmiento
Brighton winger Jeremy Sarmiento was linked with Cardiff City the same week they signed Chris Willock. Ecuadorian outlet Tera Deportes claimed that the Bluebirds have held talks over a loan move for Brighton wide man Sarmiento.

However, nothing materialised and as the summer dragged on, nothing else was said about Sarmiento's potential switch to the Welsh capital. But Burnley swooped late in the window and the winger ended up signing a loan deal there.

Tyrese Campbell
Cardiff were said to be in a 'six-club fight' with teams including Rangers for Tyrese Campbell's services back in July. Campbell left Stoke City as a free agent at the end of last season, having netted 36 goals in 164 appearances for the Potters.

Of course it proved a difficult summer for the striker, who lost his dad and former Cardiff striker Kevin. He eventually signed for Sheffield United alongside Moore.

Goduine Koyalipou
Cardiff were linked with a move for forward Goduine Koyalipou, who scored 17 goals in 32 games for second-tier side SK Bereven in Belgium last year, winning the league's Golden Boot award.

According to HITC, Cardiff, Sunderland and League One Birmingham City all wanted to sign the Central African Republic international, who represented France at youth level. The 24-year-old eventually signed for Bulgarian top-flight side CSKA Sofia.

Stelios Andreou
Around the same time, Cardiff were linked with Cypriot defender Stelios Andreou. The 22-year-old also made his name in Belgium with Charleroi.

The centre-back ended up staying put, however, and still plays for Charleroi. Cardiff ended up swooping for a different defender who played in Belgium in Jesper Daland, who joined from Cercle Brugge on a permanent deal.

Bang on Allan that's exactly what they was. I wouldn't be surprised if not one of them names we even contacted agents or clubs about. It's the usual 4737 names spread across social media and guess work.
