I was living and working in Torquay at the time so watched the game on the TV in the house i shared with two Scottish lads. Our local was a pub that all the Jock workers in Torquay used. Big TVs in pubs were not the norm then. Just before the end of the game the camera focussed on the dug out and my mate remarked that he didn't look well. As soon as it was finished we went up my local me to drown my sorrows and ready to endure the celebration of the jocks. Then we heard the news. What a terrible change in the atmosphere. As others have pointed out elsewhere , people were crying.
As most football fans know the unbearable tension is hanging on at the end that gets to you not the chasing the game. I am no doctor but i think if they hadn't equalised he would possibly not have had that heart attack at that particular moment.
