Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut has revealed that Ebou Adams pushed for his move to Derby County this summer and said it was not "the best way" for the Bluebirds to try to keep him.
Adams sealed a permanent move to Derby in the summer having played a key role in their promotion to the Championship while on loan last season.
Derby eventually made a breakthrough for the Gambian in the summer as they paid around £500,000 to secure his signature.
Adams looks like he will be a key player again for Paul Warne's side this summer having scored in the 2-1 defeat at Watford and he was excellent in the 3-0 victory over Bristol City before the international break.
Asked about Adams, who has quickly become a huge favourite at Pride Park, Bulut said: "Ebs did well last season over there and he wanted to leave.
"When a player wants to leave or go away, it's not the best way to try to keep him because their head is somewhere else. He had a good season. I wish him good luck, but not for Saturday."
