The spinetingling Sol Bamba tribute that saw Cardiff City and Leeds United fans join in beautiful moment
Former Cardiff City and Leeds United captain Sol Bamba tragically passed away at the age of 39walesonlineYou would have to be made of stone not to be moved by the spinetingling tributes paid to Sol Bamba at Cardiff City Stadium.
A man who captained both Cardiff City and Leeds United, who was cruelly, tragically taken from us at the tender age of 39 three weeks ago, was fittingly remembered in a stunning moment which saw a whole stadium of supporters put aside their rivalries and join together in a deafening round of applause and cheers in memory of a fallen giant.
The day is all about Bamba. The matchday programme's front cover was emblazoned with a composite of Bamba photographs in both his Cardiff and Leeds heydays. The Fred Keenor statue was decked out with Bamba memorabilia, while Leeds United Supporters' Trust also laid a wreath at the foot of the 1927 FA Cup winner.
The press room, usually filled with photos from the club's history framed on the wall, saw its usual wall art swapped out in an ode to the great man.
No fewer than 29 A2 photos of the Ivorian, from his youth and start in the game on these shores with Hibs and Leeds, right through to his time playing for the Bluebirds and his stint in the Cardiff dugout alongside Sabri Lamouchi last year.
Cardiff's tribute to Sol, who passed away while in his capacity of manager of Turkish second-tier side Adanaspor, on the day was emotional and poignant.
