Not sure if this can be appealed, all about interpretation ? Or should referees ‘stick to the rule book’ saw a post on one of the other boards where they have shown what looks to be the rule specifically for the red card offence yesterday. If correct then surely it should be rescinded.

It was a very harsh red IMO.
The guy got back up immediately and didn't even ask for a free kick.

I thought so as well, the referee actually played advantage, my interpretation was a yellow, we luckily enjoyed hospitality in the captains lounge yesterday, there were two Lufc supporters there and they both said it was never a red card offence.

Poor decision in my opinion.
Let's get it straight - even with eleven on the pitch we would have lost without scoring but if you give a red card for that then there has to be consistency and there could easily be a red card or two in every single game.
Reminded me a bit of the Sunderland game a few years ago where Juan Cala (remember him?)
fouled Conor Wickham(remember him?) and Mark Halsey played an advantage. Wickham went round Marshall and after fannying around for about ten seconds, eventually put the ball wide.
Having allowed play to continue for about 30 seconds after the initial contact to see if Wickham would score, and having already played advantage, as soon as he missed Halsey then gave a penalty and sent Cala off.
In that instance there were three punishments for the one offence - the advantage, the penalty and the red card.
Halsey was widely praised on Match of the Day that night for his actions but I can't recall before or since advantage being played for so long before being brought back for the original infringement.

Yellow no one complains... but ref right by letter of law! Whilst player got straight up the foul did allow bagan to catch him up and prevented a clear run at goal .... win some lose some..... not to sure var would have helped as refs interpretation was correct unfortunately..

As an ex referee my initial thought was "if he doesnt score" the referee has a decision to make.
I don't blame Bagan
We just lose the ball in stupid positions and you can't do that against the lines of Leeds and Burnley

As a former Referee also, I have to say that the referee made the correct decision as Bagans initial foul denied a clear goal scoring opportunity. He made no attempt to play the ball so a red card was correct.

Think it was the reckless way he went in that saw ref give red card....it looked a deliberate attempt to stop him rather than an attempted tackle.....can't blame ref for city's carelessness at back

someone on Facebook showed the rules state that if the referred plays an advantage when a player fouls in a goal scoring opportunity that the red card should be downgraded to a yellow. I'm pretty certain he allowed play to continue waiting for an advantage. in any case a harsh red in my opinion as there was cover.

It also says denying a goal scoring opportunity... bagan was last man if player avoided bagan he would have been clear on goal... but because bagan impeded him it allowed him to stop clear run at goal.... began made no attempt to tackle him and that's the problem..... could gone either way .. but ref used letter of law

Appalling decesion, just shows how ineffective and worthless the linesman, should they not have a voice? Or they scared to challenge a referee decesion as it effects future opportunity.
Thought I'd never say it but bring in VAR for the championship.
Bagan was having a real decent game.

What would linesman have said to make a difference? Bagan was last man unquestionably he stopped a direct unimpeded run at goal..... I'm sure var would not have overturned the refs decision ?

100% a red. Last man. Foolish decision.
Coupled up with O'Dowdas foolish sweep of the legs for the penalty which luckily was saved. THEN Chambers' foolish header for the gift for Piroe to kill us.
3 mistakes like that shouldn't happen in 1 game.

We have this conversation with fans around us and if there's one consistency in city's defending it's the inability to clear the ball 1st time? Pereos goal indicative to how opposition score goals
After we miss clearing from defence
