Hate to say it but...

Mon Sep 23, 2024 10:19 am

Is it time we did actually go down?

It may be the catalyst that forces Tan to finally go, allow us to get proper footballing people in to run the club, and to have a proper reset. It worked for many clubs who are now in, or have had decent times in, the Premier league like Forest, Ipswich, Southampton, Norwich. Things are looking for for Sunderland this year.

While we are in the Championship, I think Tan will hold on as we are still only one step away from the big time, irrespective of the fact he is the only person in the world to believe he will take us there.

Would you swap the struggles, the incompetence, the false hope, the dull boring football, Tan and the clown circus, for a League One campaign with a fresh broom, and, hopefully a successful Board, and successful team, where we have proper hope of success.

As the Championship gets better, we get worse, and at the moment, we are not good enough for this league.

And NO, I dont want us to go down, but it could be the only option to stop our club from rotting from the inside out.

Looking at the bigger picture, the club needs to change from top to bottom and if going down is needed to achieve that then so be it

You pointed out a few clubs who went down, sorted themselves out and then came back up and sometimes up again, but there are other clubs that have gone down and not come back up

Blackpool, Bolton, Portsmouth to name 3

So it's a risky strategy

Portsmouth got back to the Championship.

I’d support Cardiff regardless and do feel something drastic needs to change to get the parasites out of our club.

Why? Because it went so well the last time we were demoted?

Not saying I'd want us to go down, of course I don't.

But the club seems content with just staying up every season at the moment.

If the current trend continues, we will be relegated at some point. If we get this management appointment wrong, it will be this season.

But those who think that Tan would cut his losses and sell us as a League One club are wrong. He could still put in enough money to keep the club running.

He will only sell us if he gets what he wants for it. For that, we need to be either a top Championship club or more likely a PL club.

Until or if that happens, he doesn't need to sell us.

So people shouldn't think that us going down would mean that Tan would go.

I don't see how relegation forces Tan to sell.

The club will reduce in value on relegation and he won't sell now while worth a bit more.

I think Bolton, Reading, Wigan, Swindon and the monster that is Bradford thought the same.

Tans mistrust of everyone and everything is crippling us, but he is not stupid. L1 would be catastrophic for him and he knows it.

I really don't care, probably still go, have a laugh, and may see a goal.

I reiterate, I don't want us to go down, and I said it COULD be he catalyst for a sale. I am fully aware he might stay. I'm also fully aware it's a gamble.

However, it has been pointed out in this thread, and it is he point I am making that something drastic has to happen before change will take place.

Either Tan sells for reduced amount, Someone makes a silly offer to the value of Tans estimate, or we get relegated.

I don't like the latter as much as anyone else, but if the status quo remains, we will still be having this argument in 5 years time.

Fair point

No, I don't think it would.

Hes a business man, and he's stubborn. He's already saying he's not selling due to lack of bids high enough.

I think it'll have the opposite effect to what you think it will have.

I write this everytime... we CANNOT afford to go down. Major financial problems on L1 revenues. Likely administration.

Why would you ever EVER want to go down.

Weak!!

There is zero chance of us going into administration (even in lge1) while Tan is here as he would lose all of his money then.

Would never want us to go down from the Championship. We spent long enough trying to get there and have now held that status for over 20 years.

I recall our seasons in the dungeon (league 2) and Div 3. Have absolutely zero desire to return to the lower echelons and I believe our current squad has more than enough about it to retain our current status.

You could well be right. It's a huge IF......with zero guarantees

Read my two previous comments. In answer to our comment, I don't. If nothing changes however to change a mind set, it is going to be a desperate next few years ANYWAY...

I would support going down to league 1 if it meant Tan would leave. Nothing will change until he does no matter how much positivity people preach.

Me too.... been there, done that. We need room and time to think as a club and a team. We are currently being slowly suffocated.

I too believe we have more than enough to retain our current status, but tables don't lie, neither do lack of goals.

One of us are wrong. Hopefully it's me, and hopefully its not tested.

Go look at our accounts. Financially, we're being bankrolled to live in the championship. Cash flow is exponentionally reduced in L1.
