Bookmakers' favourite for the Cardiff City manager job Mark Hughes is not considered a contender to become Erol Bulut's successor, WalesOnline has learned.
The dismissal of Bulut on Sunday, against the backdrop of Cardiff's worst start for nearly a century, has left City once again searching for a new boss to salvage another season in danger of drifting away.
After all, we've been here so many times before. Indeed, you'd think Cardiff would have this process pretty much nailed down by now. But there's a real chance that this latest drive could well rumble on for a little while.
A number of names have already been thrown around. Some have already been ruled out.
KV Kortrijk coach Freyr Alexandersson was certainly an option well known to the Cardiff hierarchy, but both he and the club, the latter also owned by Vincent Tan don't forget, have denied that a move to the capital is on the cards.

The bookies, as they always do, have their own ideas, with Hughes currently leading the list of contenders.
Hughes is obviously a man well known to the club and supporters alike, and comes with a rich managerial CV that might well win some favour with some corners of the City hierarchy.
It's understood CEO Ken Choo is likely to take the lead on this latest search, with Mehmet Dalman likely to take more of a supporting role having played a big part in the appointment of Bulut. Tan, however, will still have the final say on what happens next.
However insiders have already poured cold water on the chances of the 60-year-old getting the job.
It's worth remembering that the size of this betting market is small enough that even the slightest movement behind a certain name can see them shoot up to the top of the list of contenders.

Think I’d take Hughes in a more director role between manager and board, but not as manager.
We been missing a link between the 2. Always wanted a Macphail type in that role tho

It's in the bookie's interest to have people they think have no chance on the list, to lure some bets from people taking a guess, easy money for them.

Problem is that we're bargain basement shopping for any manager.
Maybe Hughes wouldn't be such a bad option

It definitely won't be Mark Hughes.

2/1 is low.
Bulut or Lamouchi weren't even on the two previous lists mind so I'm not getting too excited or annoyed at these lists.

That is very true.
Would also say that if you put a tenner on anyone then their odds would shift.

Cardiff City would need to pay significant compensation if they are to procure the services of Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones, according to the South London Press.
The Welsh giants have sacked Erol Bulut following a poor start to the season, which has seen them drop down to the bottom of the Championship table.
The search is now on to find a replacement with a number of names being linked with the post at the Bluebirds.
Among those is current Charlton Athletic manager Jones, who is overseeing the League One side’s surge this season.
Jones has just signed a new long-term contract with the Addicks and has been backed well in the transfer market by the board.
Charlton would not want to lose Jones to Cardiff.
And if Cardiff did come calling then a significant compensation package would be needed to lure Jones away from the Valley.
It therefore remains to be seen whether Cardiff do want Jones and are prepared to pay what would be needed.
Jones has experience of managing clubs such as Stoke City, Luton Town and Southampton.

Purse is a steal at 12/1

Freyr Alexandersson’s odds have shortened again tonight, 3/1 with sky bet and 7/2 joint favourite with bet victor, I can’t see that anyone has put big money on him so do the bookies know something ?

I can see Steve Cooper getting the axe from Leicester soon too- He would be ideal for the club.
