It's The Defence

Sat Sep 28, 2024 4:37 pm

Many commentators on the MBs focus on City's inability to score goals but I have suspected for some time that the defence and defenders are not good enough. Last season we were 12th and conceded 70 goals. Only three teams had a worse record. In terms of goals scored, only five teams did worse than us. In spite of this, we still managed to win 19 games. But having the fourth worse defence record in the league shows that our defence needs some attention. Perhaps, the leaky defence is having an impact on attackers since they are under extra pressure to score because they know that they are likely to concede. I am not very confident in many of our defenders TBH.

Am I out on a limb here or do others feel the same.

(sorry if this topic has already been covered extensively)

Perry Ng has gone from Player of the Season to a complete liability.

Callum Chambers has been a disaster.

Jamilu Collins would struggle to get into a Cardiff and District team.

Player of the last 2 seasons to absolutely useless in a couple of months. Something isn't right there.

I heard he’s upset with how Wintle was treated, not 100% on it as heard it in the ground. Might have some weight to it.

As for Chambers over Goutas, I really can’t understand why, Goutas was solid last season albeit a few mistakes but where near as many as Chambers in these matches

If that's the case then he needs to grow the fk up & get over himself.

It's both actually.

We've scored two goals and conceded 17 in seven games.

And the midfield and the attack

Exactly. Have pride in the shirt. Play for your own pride and play for the fans who help pay your wages and stop stealing a living..

Goutas was aggressive and could time his headers. He wasn't the greatest with the ball at his feet, but he fits in with the other 22. Dropping him for Chambers seems an act of Hari Kari.

Well I keep banging on about it but the midfield is very weak. No spine.

We needed upgrades at 6, maybe 2 of them.

We can get the ball into good areas and finish rhem off, we can’t provide the defence support.

There is no spine in this team.

Siopis and Goutas I suspect were ‘Bulut Babies’ and I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see them in a city shirt again.
I just hope we’re not too far adrift by January so the new gaffer can get a few in.

Most of the goals conceded are from our inability to clear the ball 1st time classic example their 1st goal Collins decided it was best to head a knee high ball out! Could stood and booted it but chose the hardest thing to do and ball went 5yrds straight to goal scorer... that is indicative of goals conceded.

Watching Bristol & swans and there is alot of effort by both sets defenders to keep ball out ... that's something we lack "EFFORT" it's always half hearted by our defenders

Watching Manure v Spurs & Manure losing after less than 3 minutes due to their early faffing around at the back. Funny stuff.

Just watched the extended highlights of the game - couldn't do the whole ninety - and our defence was awful. Some of our defenders are just not good enough. Another thing I noticed about the game was that Hull players had more urgency about them and they bullied us. We should have been more like them.

Ng is working his ticket for a January move, no one can be that continously shite. Players no better than last season tbh.

It’s both.

Two goals scored is also a massive problem

Defence is bigger the problem, Bulut set up to try and protect them and we couldn't score because of that, and still conceded two or more, Riza set up to try and attack more and left the defence less protected and we conceded four.
