Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham and Newport could soon be competing for qualification in European football.
They’re in talks to enter the Welsh League Cup where the winner would qualify for the Europa Conference League.

As much as I'd like City to be playing European football, this shouldn't happen.
Do we really want more games added to the calendar, when our players can't even play decent football as it is?
Plus I feel like there would be a lot of uproar if this was to happen. It'll be talks of "they should go play in the Welsh league then"

I would love for us to play in Europe we could drop out of the fa and league cup and play Europe, the money just from playing in Europe would let us bring in top quality aswell as attract real quality
But only if there is no risk of us getting threatened of getting kicked out of the league, I also think they would make us still play on the Tuesday in the league if we had Europe on a Wednesday because they wouldn't want to accommodate us

Love this idea. Be great for Welsh football as a whole. We're certainly not qualifying for Europe in the English system any time soon and who wouldn't want European nights at CCS or abroad?

We are not going to withdraw from the FA Cup or EFL Cup, what a ridiculous thing to say.
Do you not remember the uproar when Man Utd withdrew to play in the Club World Cup??
The EFL and FA know about this so they wouldn't kick us out of the league.

Rightly or wrongly it would certainly encourage some decent signings

Clubs do not play league game on Tuesday then europe on weds don't do it now why would they make exception with welsh clubs? Guess it will be done on same basis it is now... no chance of boycotting cups just play reserve sides .....but problem may come regarding squads as club needs to have squad announced for Europe before competition starts... what squad will clubs name for welsh Cup ss that is squad that will play in Europe if qualify? And can't see clubs being given ultimatum welsh league or efl again didn't before so no reason to do it now despite calls undoubtedly from jealous English clubs..... must remember only out of europe because of archaic faw committee decision years ago.

Exactly why it will not happen. The English teams in our league would be in uproar.

Personally I don’t agree with it. I don’t like the idea of us sacrificing the Europe route through the fa and efl cups. Yes it’s unlikely we’d win them. We’ve got to both finals in the past recently though . I’d rather earn the right to play in Europe. I think if this did happen it would open the door of us being kicked out of the EFL and join Welsh league

This has got nothing to do with the EFL though.
If Uefa are giving Wales an extra spot and the Welsh are prepared to nominate us - I doubt whether the EFL could do anything

Just saw this and my first thought is an emphatic…
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! We compete in the EFL and
NOT the League of Wales with (supporter at least) ambition to reach the Premier League…
We also had ‘issues’ when we were in Europe years ago because we had an effective two-chance road to Europe via the Welsh Cup (in one of which we saw City beat Real Madrid at Ninian Park! We pulled out of that and still had ‘questions’ when we were close to qualification via the FA/EFL via our appearances in the FA Cup Final and League Cup Final…
Leave it alone, trust neither FA/EFL and/or particularly the FAW and get on with the task in hand…
We’ve been here before and the FAE had their sights (under the late Alun Evans) to pull us all into their local leagues; and it worked to some extent with some non-League Welsh clubs in the English pyramid being taken in and most losing both ambition and size…
European Conference Cup followed by the League of Wales…?
Surely, even under the current regime, we have more ambition than that…?

Suspect it's to do with uefa co ifficiency rules the better the performances in europe the more chance of more reams allowed to qualify thays why premier league as more teams than others in Europe... tns qualifying for group stage as boosted faw ratings in co ifficiency table.

Good luck to TNS and their League of Wales but leave us out; it will cause problems we can do without…!

Chris
have read what is proposed.... and I was correct its to boost co efficiency. But also it will mean clubs won't be able to qualify for Europe via fa or cariboo cups..... obviously money is driving force with faw affiliated clubs getting share of the money ..... fa and premier league been involved in talks as well but no mention of efl!!
Not sure there's any risk of clubs going away from efl but still not sure it's a good idea.

I wonder what interest would be like from fans, there would no doubt be a novelty the first time around. But looks at TNS fixtures in the conference league aside from Forentina away there's no real glamour ties.
What sort of crowds would we get for home games against Astana or Durjgardens? Even Panithoikos I don't think we'd get much over 20,000
Sun Sep 29, 2024 5:44 pm
I don’t think we should do anything that risks EFL status
Sun Sep 29, 2024 5:51 pm
FAW couldnt organise a piss up in a brewery never mind convince anyone to let us qualify for Europe. I can just see the same lot who advise the Wales trips making sure we get an allocation of minimal tickets.

My greatest memories of watching City play is those wonderful European night games.. Too many to list.
Sun Sep 29, 2024 8:52 pm
Definitely a no from me.
Totally unfair on the clubs in the EFL system, and I’d rather us remain in these leagues than compete in Welsh leagues forever
Sun Sep 29, 2024 11:20 pm
We might all be playing each other in Div 1 in the next few years ..... Hope Not !
Sun Sep 29, 2024 11:29 pm
I remember the good old days when City played in the Cup Winners Cup. Could be some nice away trips.
I could see this working if it didn't involve the first full team. For example it could be the under 21 squad and say 2 players max from the senior squad.

Couldn't agree more. We don't want to rock the boat, we play in the best league in the world and some clubs would kill to get in it. We are only lucky that it's an historical right of way as we were invited into the EFL over 100 years ago, it would never happen now. And who wants to go and watch us playing Aberblaencwm Welfare on a wet night in January? I hope to god that we leave well alone.

I think the FAW needs to sort out the welsh league first as that’s a mess. As much as I would love us to play against teams in Europe, this just isn’t fair on teams in the English system. The only way I could see it being fair if they let a few English teams from the same divisions as the welsh clubs enter the cup. I remember a few English teams playing in the welsh cup in the past, but it was always lower league teams.
Mon Sep 30, 2024 6:53 pm
I don’t really care about European football I haven’t missed it if I’m honest and if it causes problems for whoever then it’s not worth doing it premier league getting there is more important at the moment seems along way off but we can dream at least
Mon Sep 30, 2024 7:09 pm
You can be sure all clubs involved will take a close look at this... any doubts about participating in English pyramid system they will drop it like a stone... can see why faw would like it to happen but lot more discussions required before can become a reality.... eufa Co efficiency league faw 55th need to be in top 15 to gain extra place so at moment 4 teams qualify for Europe city ect takes one place but if co efficiency rises to 15th go back to 4 welsh league clubs qualifying. That's what it's about.
Mon Sep 30, 2024 8:17 pm
We would struggle to beat Newport!
We won’t beat Swansea or Wrexham so we shouldn’t be considering Europe anytime soon
