Craig Bellamy says he's pleased :

Sat Oct 12, 2024 8:10 am

Craig Bellamy says he's pleased with his side's performance against Iceland , despite losing a 2-0 lead against Iceland.

Wales went into the break ahead thanks to goals by Brennan Johnson and Harry Wilson but were pegged back by two Logi Tómasson goals

Pleased!! I dread to thing what makes him unhappy. Second half tactics were unbelievable. 2-0 up and under pressure and they carry on passing around - and losing it -at the back. They invited Iceland to score. Madness

Probably a weak attempt at a’joke’, given his previous posts. But either way it hasn’t taken long for the Bellamy bashers to show the honeymoon was a short one…

Undoubtedly the result would have been as big a disappointment to Craig as it was to the Wales support; but surely it’s Craig’s job to remain positive and upbeat (in public at least) in support of his players?

Annis, it was indeed a second half that had hallmarks of a recent Bluebird demise; but hopefully (and I know you support him) Craig will learn from this and will improve for the future. The first half certainly showed that we have a team capable of playing good stuff… :ayatollah:

I do wonder if it'll ever be alright to criticise Bellamy.

Gave him praise after the last two games so think it's only right we question him after last night - it's never good to throw away a two goal lead.

I was critical of Riza for City dropping two points last week, it's only right that I say the same about Bellamy (not comparing the two because I believe Bellamy will go on to big things and Riza won't but CB should not be exempt from criticism).

Indeed not, Ned…

My first comment above was aimed solely at the comedic ‘sack him now!’ jibe…! :ayatollah:

The critism should be diredcted at the fact that there was a problem from beginning of 2nd half and something needed to be changed but he didn't or players couldn't change what they were doing ..... it had the hallmark of what bulut was doing at city and hoping things would change on their own? It simply needed Wales to stop playing from back if only temporary just to stop the press and our mistake of giving ball away every 3rd pass .... bellers will learn what his players are capable of doing or not as in case of last night

Catch 22, if he did change things then he’s like Riza. If he doesn’t he’s like Bulut. So many Pep and Klopps on here.

If he changed things for the better then he would be praised, but he did nothing really when there was a clear sign of Iceland starting to dominate.

I want him to do well with Wales but he can't be exempt from criticism.

The fact is it was a similar story to Montenegro away. If that game has gone on another ten minutes, they would have equalised as well.

I have criticised Bellamy and Riza, fairly in my opinion.

To people on here maybe so but like me I'm sure you could see that we were being pressed from start 2nd half and we couldn't string 3 passes together highlighting the problem... an experienced coach would have tweeked things to negate the press... could gone long for a bit to break their play up but I'm sure he'll learn more about his players after this game. As some were really poor once pressure was on.

I do agree second half we were poor, we held a 2-0 lead and like we have said before (with the Riza issue) why change things up if what you are doing is what has got you in the lead in the first place.

He could have changed things especially in midfield to sure us up a bit, but that also could have just ended with a draw, and then people would have said we drew because of the changes, so he's in an awkward position overall.

Difference with Bellamy I see though is that he's open to change and open to learning. He's early in his management career so will learn from it moving forward.
