A forum for all things Cardiff City

Joel Colwill is even rated higher than his brother Rubin.
Joel is 20 years old in less than 2 weeks and so is not a kid.
Joel has shone beyond for Cardiff City’s U21 and even made it to our first team last season and made 2 appearances.
His qualities are their and is rated very highly by every City Coach and even The Media from Rob Phillips to Paul Abandonsdo
Purse recommended he went out and Joel joined Cheltenham league 2 (4) where I said at the time he will be surrounded by a struggling team of players, Currently 20th in League 2 (4).
Joel started brightly but if you’re surrounded by poor players they bring you down and that's exactly what’s happened.
Joel Colwill who had an amazing start with struggling Cheltenham has now dropped to their level and dipped.
Joel should of been kept or sent to a Top League 1 Club.
I hope we bring him back in January.
It’s been proved now time and time again in the last 15 yrs sending our players out to League 2 / Non League and Welsh League, they have failed to make it in the Championship.

This is another example of how useless Purse is. Not a clue

This is the difference about being rated and actually proving it,he’s got the ability but I think the physical demands are massive, this is why I ve said before, that players are sent out on loan for the physical part

I am not concerned at all, it's part of the process.
Joel has never played at this intensity before, its a huge jump up from U21's to any prefessional men's team. He is undoubtedly levels above most of those players in terms of ability and of course potential, but the physicality of the training really affects young players. He also has playing against much better players than he has played to date.
We wrecked his older brother and Davies by not allowing them to go out and get that into their legs. I do believe Rubin has suffered in terms of readiness by being a bit part player during his physical development.
Jadon Philogene looked good for a few early games, crashed about now, then got better, almost unplayable as the season wore on. All young players go through this, it's why we send them out.
There is no point in hoping a decent L1 club pick him up to sit on the bench to add depth to their sqaud.

He didn’t play very well for the Under 21’s last night
Looked lost and was substituted in 2nd half

I'm just watching the Chesterfield v Notts County game in League Two. Also watched Bradford v Newport on Monday.
The quality in that league is so low. It's is a huge difference to Championship football.
Truth is if you play with bad players for so long, your level with drop. I worry that's what will happen with Joel.
He would have done well in League One, which is a more similar league to the Championship in terms of how teams play.

He is not playing with bad players though, he is playing with L2 players, levels above where he has played to date. Plenty of decent prospects don't initially make that jump or successfully make that jump at all for whatever reason.

I can tell you now 100% their is Not much Quality in Cheltenham’s team and I said this months ago.
This will certainly not make Joel a better player.
He needed to be with a Top League 1 Team like Alex Robertson was last season.
The proof is their , why Cardiff Fail time and time again with the Clubs We send Our Players to.
The good News is Joel Colwill is exceptional and hopefully this won’t set him back to much.

2-3 Finished
Swindon were bottom 3 and Won
But still I would not want any of Cheltenhams players

Rob Earnshaw started his career on loan at Greenock Morton, didn't hurt him. If Joel Colwill is struggling then welcome to professional football. Really don't buy this he's been dragged down to their level. If he's as good says his class should shine.

How many years ago?
And is that the only player you can say.
COME ON TIM DO BETTER
Well I know the whole TRUE Story.
He never came back any good.
Sam use to give Earnie extra training every day at least another 2hrs.
Then I would go under the main Grandstand and Sam would have Earnie on Weights every day.
There is a lot more to this.
So name me a City player in 15 yrs?
PLEASE COME ON THAT WAS REAL DESPERATION TO PROVE ME WRONG
I am not asking for 5 in 15 years just one to come back to us and become a regular with us, I am not asking a lot am I?

Unfortunately not every player that makes it in the U21 makes it at senior level.
Charlie McNeil is a prime example.
Broke records at both UTD and City, over 700 youth goals, struggled on loan last year.
Sometimes it’s because the player isn’t actually as good as people make out, so I don’t agree with the ‘brought down to their level’

People forget that Ernie only played 3 games for Greenock Morton It level of football was not great but it woke him up and made him work harder on his game when he came back because he did not want to go back to that level again.
