El Ghazi shouldn't start

Thu Oct 17, 2024 5:29 pm

That's my opinion for the Plymouth game.

Whittaker will be up against Bagan on our defensive left.

He will need help and El Ghazi isn't reliable defensively.

I would start O'Dowda on the left wing, despite his poor form, because stopping Whittaker is key and we know O'Dowda is good defensively.

I get your point with Bagan on the left, but I actually disagree.

Plymouth will be there for the taking, and if we set up defensively, that will play right into their hands.

This is a must win game. We are at home, we must go at them from the start.

A fair shout.
Taking away the poor sub appearance v Wurzels he’s pretty reliable as an extra defender.
It could be argued that as the home side we should let them worry about us but I do see your point and agree with you.
I wonder if EG has it in his contract that he must start when fit. If that’s the case we could start Tanner on the left as he’s pretty handy at tracking bank now.

El Ghazi hasn't impressed me at all.

Good point.

But as CA says, El Ghazi hasn't exactly set the world slight.

To be fair though, neither has O Dowda this season

True, but we've seen with our own eyes that O'Dowda is a big positive in our squad.

We are basing El Ghazi's positives from his stint at Villa. We haven't actually seen it yet.

I'm fully prepared for El Ghazi scoring the winner on Saturday after I've posted this.

Yes that's a fair point, we've been waiting to see some sort of genius from him but have yet to see anything.

I'm thinking that this game might be a chance against one of the weaker teams for him to get his confidence back - light the spark so to speak.

Either way, 3 points is a must

ODowda’s “defending” cost us the win at Bristol

Riza's poorly timed substitutions and change of formation as well as O'Dowda's defending cost us the win at Bristol City as well as Perry Ng's poor attempt at defending the cross.

Nor me.

Wonder when the fans will turn on him.

Some will give him more latitude no matter his form.

I argue that O'Dowda's fellow team mates cost us the win at Bristol as no1 told him someone was right on his ar$e and he thought he had time to chest the ball down.

Not having a dig at you mate, it's just so easy sometimes to blame players for mistakes and I hate it when some of the more committed players that DO give a shit get it in the neck.

They played a part for sure.

Yeah appreciate that mate. I love ODowda don’t get me wrong but he definitely played a part in that goal as did others.

Admittedly it was weird to try and chest the ball at knee height but glad there are some O'Dowda fans out there!

I think I'd start him tomorrow. As Worcester_ccfc said, has more about him defensively and, sad though it is that we need to think like that at home to Plymouth, we are desperate for a win and need to be on it tomorrow. El Ghazi just isn't firing yet.

for me El Ghazi has to play, we all know how good he is we just need to get him to that point

if we attack from the off i dont think we will need to worry about defending weakness, bagan is a decent left back and he gets a little better with every game.

Normally I would agree that Bagan would be up for the job but I think Whittaker is crucial to stop.

If we stop him then we stop Plymouth.

Hopefully his goal today will be a major boost to his confidence and we can see what he can really do.
