Best player in the world?

Mon Oct 28, 2024 9:54 pm

Rodri has won the 2024 Ballon D'Or award, recognising him as the best player in the world.

The midfielder for Manchester City becomes the first Premier League player to win the award since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008.

Real Madrid officials and players didn't attend the event because they were unhappy that Vinicius Junior didn't win.

Below are the full rankings for this year:

1 Rodri (Manchester City)
2 Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid)
3 Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid)
4 Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid)
5 Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
6 Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid)
7 Lautaro Martinez (Inter Milan)
8 Lamine Yamal (Barcelona)
9 Toni Kroos (Real Madrid)
10 Harry Kane (Bayern Munich)
11 Phil Foden (Manchester City)
12 Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen)
13 Danny Olmo (Barcelona)
14 Ademola Lookman (Atalanta)
15 Nico Williams (Athletico Bilbao)
16 Granit Xhaka (Bayer Leverkusen)
17 Federico Valverde (Real Madrid)
18 Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa)
19 Martin Odegaard (Arsenal)
20 Hakan Calhanoglu (Inter Milan)
21 Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)
22 Antonio Rudiger (Real Madrid)
23 Ruben Dias (Manchester City)
24 William Saliba (Arsenal)
25 Cole Palmer (Chelsea)
26 Declan Rice (Arsenal)
27 Vitinha (PSG)
28 Alejandro Grimaldo (Bayer Leverkusen)
=29 Mats Hummels (Roma)
=29 Artem Dovbyk (Roma)

In the other awards, Real Madrid won Club of the year and Carlo Ancelotti won Coach of the year.

Do you agree that Rodri is the best player in the world?

If not, then who is out of the top ten in this list?

No idea but Harry Kane shouldn't be anywhere near a list of the top 10 footballers. Can't even take it seriously with no Messi or Ronaldo anywhere in sight just because they don't play in Europe, 30 best players in the world my arse.

It’s tough to say as we are so accustomed to seeing two standout players from the last 20 years in Ronaldo and Messi.

How important are they to their current club/international team would be the question that would make the difference.

I would go with Rodri right now on that basis

Haaland is fantastic but he’s not the best player in the world :D

Rodri has to be top of the list, he’s absolutely ridiculous. One of the best I’ve seen in his role.

Right now, Haaland.

No argument with Rodri over the past 12 months though.

Unless there is a once in a generational talent like Messi, the mantle of Best Player in the World is purely subjective. Do you chose the most lethal goalscorer (Haaland), the most influential (probably Rodri) or an exciting talent like Vinicius ? All are strong candidates but the final decision is at the whim of the judges, as I said purely subjective.

...but easy to make a decision, isn't it?

Who would you subjectively pick?

Based on his massive influence with possibly the best club team in the world and the current champions of Europe, I would plump for Rodri but the claims of the other players I mentioned are equally as valid.

Rodri at the moment but over the next 10 years would not be surprised to see Lamal dominate the award

Always nice to see a Welshman win it

I think he meant Spain when he said the champions of Europe, saying that he plays for them and possibly the best club team in the world.
