He's been doing same for years at every club he's been at he's from N ireland and something to do with bloody Sunday?
He's simply not participating in ceremony but I'm sure there is better way to do this but its never been a problem for him or clubs previously.

Freedom of speech, good on him for sticking to his values.

f**k him, I would Refuse to play with him.

He’s happy to take his wage from the English League though.

Go and play in another league then.

I respect everyone who has died fighting for their Countries.

As a member of the Armed Forces my opinion is that my predecessors have died in order to give him free speech so that he can do this so I have no issue with that. He qualifies his anti poppy stance.

What I do have an issue with is his glorifying of IRA terrorists (singing a song about an IRA member who murdered two Army lads) and also the Twitter picture he did with the balaclavas on.

He has valid reasons to not want to respect the British army.

I do agree that he should probably differentiate between the army themselves and the respect shown to those that lost their lives during the wars though.

And the Poppy is to Respect all those who have died in wars.

Yeah that’s out of order. It’s a complicated one as I’m all for free speech but he seems to take it that one, two three steps too far.

Good for him, he's entitled to his views.

I don't agree with him at all but he shouldn't be forced to take part if he doesn't agree with it - just like the players who didn't want to take knee shouldn't have been forced into it like they were.

That’s my thoughts, no one should be railroaded to take part in something they don’t believe in.

He’s standing there silently so not being openly disrespectful.

I’m not a fan of this faux outrage around things like this.

Some of the people kicking off don’t actually understand the reason they’re doing what they’re doing

He shouldn’t be on the pitch for that part if he wants to disrespect one of the biggest and most important traditions in football.
He can ply his trade in NI if he feels that strongly about the soldiers who fought and died for our freedom.

Very black and white view and if we took that approach to people’s beliefs we’d have no one left to play football.

And accepts his money of the English League and previously English Clubs, so can’t really believe in his bulshit

I read he would wear a poppy if it was just for World wars one and two.
He is a catholic Irishman and some bad things went on out there such as Bloody Sunday.

Another going find our us teams wearing black armband with poppy on (swansea and others) why not simply do what most teams do have poppy center of shirt?

If he is really that strong in his beliefs don’t take an English wage all these years and don’t live in England

Do I agree with him? Certainly not but this is quite an interesting thread considering the fanfare El Ghazi got on here for sticking up for his beliefs & his right to say it as he sees it.

Come on mate you know that’s not going to happen in reality. If we all moved out of countries that we didn’t agree with what was going on we’d have nowhere to live.

Spot on.

Because I don't agree with my local MP, doesn't mean I don't have the right to criticise them because I still live in the area.

McLean has gone too far in the past but have no issues with this, even though I disagree with his point of view.

If anything, fair play to him for sticking to his stance despite all the hate he knew he'd get.
