" Wales draw in Turkey "

FT: TURKEY 0-0 WALES

Wales conclude their Nations League campaign with two matches in the November international window. Wales will be promoted with two wins.

Before they play Iceland at home on Tuesday, they go to Kayseri on Saturday to face Turkey.

The match kicks off at 5pm UK time - it is live on S4C and BBC iPlayer.

Wales know that if they lose, their hopes of winning the group will be over - they probably need to win this game to have a good chance of winning the group.

If they finish 1st, Wales will be promoted to League A.

If they finish 2nd, they will play a team who finished 3rd in League A for a play-off to decide who will be in League A.

If they finish 3rd, they will play a team who finished 2nd in League C - the loser of that will play in League C.

Wales can't finish 4th.

Be really interesting game. Teams have had enough time to review what Bellers is doing and can set traps for us playing out and i don't think we have the quality to play through teams enough times to outweigh the downside when we inevitably turn the ball over.

Going to a pub hope they show it when the England egg is on.

Poor decision making holding ball to long..... May as well go for it we are 2 points ahead Iceland and 2 behind turkyre even if lose we still only need to draw on Tues against Iceland to come 2nd and playoffs these games important for our World Cup qualifying standings.

Re: Match Thread " Turkey v Wales "

Sat Nov 16, 2024 6:58 pm

Turkyre missed a pen hit outside of posts 5 min added time being played

Re: Match Thread " Turkey v Wales "

Sat Nov 16, 2024 7:02 pm

Final score: Turkey 0 - 0 Wales (90+5 mins)

A tad lucky but Wales battled well against a decent home side…

Not sure how that affects their progression chances now, as I thought Wales needed two wins…?

And where was the mercenary, Keiffer, tonight?

Good result despite a poor performance.

Now need to beat Iceland and hope Montenegro beat Turkey to win the group.

Relieved the penalty didn't cost us, that was a shocking decision.

Thanks, Ned. I wasn’t sure of how a draw effected Wales chances… :ayatollah:

FT 0-0 we need Montenegro to draw or win with turkyre and us beat Iceland by 3 goals .... unless of course Montenegro do win then its any win will do... if we are 2nd in group go to playoff which will effect start of world Cup qualifying dates

Re: Match Thread " Turkey v Wales "

I enjoyed the game which was high on incident and entertainment but low on quality. I cannot believe that Turkiye didn't score! Yet we had chances to win the game. It was a backs to the wall, ping pong, at times but we maybe deserved the point for our 'never say die' defending.

Brought in the play-offs for this campaign for extra promotion and relegation.

So if we finish 3rd we play one of the teams in 2nd from League C or if we finish 2nd we play one of the teams in 3rd from League A.

Problem is they've changed the format in qualifying for the World Cup play-offs through the Nations League.

Before it was the best performing teams in the Nations League who finished outside of their top two in the qualifying campaign.

But now going into the play-offs are the twelve runners up in World Cup qualifying and the four best Nations League group winners who don't finish in the top two.

So would rule us out if we don't win this group. If we do somehow win this group, almost guaranteed to be in the play-offs at least.

In other words, we will more than likely need to be finishing in the top two of our World Cup qualifying group.

Draw for World Cup qualifying is in December.

Wales will be in Pot Two which is a huge positive, should give us a decent draw - especially if we get someone like Croatia or Switzerland from Pot One instead of someone like Spain or England.

Bellemy's tactics are pleasing on the eye when it is going well which is usually against teams that are not as strong as us.

Turkey are a very strong side with players playing in the top leagues around Europe. Most of our players are in from the Championship and tbh that first half showed the difference. The second half was a lot better from us which surprised me as we played the same tactics as the first half. I expected us to go long in the second half but I did not see much of that.

A draw was a good result for us although it might not be enough to win the group. The campaign has been a good one for us and all we need is a Bale like player to make us a very good side. If Bellemy had the same quality players like Coleman had to pick from then we would be right up there.

He's done well in the games so far considering the mess page left players in.. ...Saturday no recognised Central striker so had to improvise so going forward I hope he can work out how to play with limited Central striker and knowing his study of football tactics I suspect he'll sort it out at some point...

Watching England and they get a goal with a player more offside than ours last night they allow it... I don't understand eufa interpretation of VAR use?

Gallagher was onside but also thought our goal was offside yesterday.
