In my days when I photographed 3 matches per week I covered quite a few of these derbies and I can honestly say that, in my opinion, the Cardiff-v-Swansea derby matched Rangers-v-Celtic for hostility.
I have photographed four "old firm" derbies and, for hostility, a coin thrown by a Cardiff Supporter is the only time I have ever been hit on the head LOL!
Forest-v-Derby I've done once at Pride Park and it was relatively tame.
ManU-v-ManCity is just two decent sides. One set of supporters from Manchester the other from London or abroad.
Everton-v-Liverpool is really tame in comparison. Both sides remember the now 97 who died as a result of Hillsborough.
Blackburn/Preston-v-Burnley can be a little spicy but like I said Rangers-v-Cektic and Cardiff-v-Swansea are the two major derbies in my opinion and being "pitch side".

Interested in your view because I watched the latest match between them and thought the same.
The fact they play each other four times in the league probably takes a bit away as well.
Compared to two times in the English leagues.
Man Utd v Liverpool was missed out too, arguably the biggest rivalry in England.

Thoughts on Man Utd v Liverpool?
I put that high on the list, oldest rivalry in England they say.
Personally think it's a bigger rivalry than the derbies in Manchester or Liverpool.
