Cardiff City fan banned from football for throwing coins at Swansea City fans
November 26, 2024
A Cardiff City supporter has been banned from attending football matches after throwing coins at Swansea City fans during a heated South Wales derby.
The incident took place at the Swansea.com Stadium on August 25, where tensions were high as the two clubs battled to a 1-1 draw. Sam Bright, a 46-year-old individual from Pentwyn, Cardiff, was apprehended by South Wales Police for a public order offence following his actions.
CCTV footage captured Bright hurling coins from the away stands towards the home supporters, leading to his arrest and subsequent appearance at Swansea Magistrates’ Court on September 11.
During the court proceedings, Bright admitted to contravening the Football (Offences) Act 1991 by throwing missiles at an area adjacent to the pitch.
As a result, he was handed a three-year Football Banning Order, preventing him from attending regulated football matches across the United Kingdom. A Football Banning Order is a civil measure aimed at deterring violence and disorder at football events, with breaches carrying penalties such as imprisonment, fines, or both.
PC Christian Evans of South Wales Police expressed approval of the ban, highlighting its importance in maintaining a safe and respectful environment at the Swansea.com Stadium.

46 years of age, FFS!
Whatever happened to ‘
maturity with age’?
Throwing coins at opposing supporters is abhorrent and extremely dangerous; even if it could be seen as ‘
giving alms’ in that deprived part of the world!
We were in uproar when they (the Jacks) did it at the CCS; and rightly so!
A 3-year banning order was quite lenient, given the potential consequences of this guy’s actions!

Will say this while I don't condone the coin throwing in the slightest, as it could cause serious injury.
I know for a fact the Jack's threw coins towards our fans straight after we scored as both of my mates that I went with were hit on the head by a coin. Both were luckily struck near the tops of their heads so no lasting damage but few inches lower and could easily have serious damage done to them.
Maybe with this fan that was banned, it was done it retaliation or maybe he threw the first coin, we don't know and it doesnt matter, but either way both sets of fans need to cut this sort of thing out otherwise we could be looking at something way more life changing next time anything like this happens and we will continue to have restrictions put on us aswell because of incidents like these giving the police justification to do so.

No place for this in football, whoever they support.
The right decision to ban them, should be for longer really.
Hopefully this acts as a deterrent to others.

I bet no Swansea fans got arrested though, even though they started the throwing , and my 9 year old had coins hit him when we were walking down when game finished and another young kid badly hurt from a coin that hit his eye . All the stewards were doing was watching us and not all the jacks throwing loads of coins
Tossers
