Updated " Will the game go ahead? "

Fri Dec 06, 2024 11:25 am

Contrary to media reports, our Sky Bet Championship fixture against Watford is scheduled to go ahead as planned tomorrow.

A safety inspection will be held at Cardiff City Stadium at 11am tomorrow, with further updates thereafter.

Updated

South Wales is forecast to take the brunt of the storm that's due tomorrow and there's talk of a "Red" warning for winds during the morning which means potentially life-threatening conditions.

There must be a real risk that the game will be called off tomorrow. Even if the pitch is playable the surroundings may be too dangerous for spectators.

Even if the game does go ahead it could turn into a lottery due to the weather and of course we have another game to come in midweek.

No doubt Rotherham are hiding their mops just in case!

Hope watford arrive today otherwise they'll struggle to get here.....
I've decided not to travel expect britton ferry bridge to be closed speed limits on m4 long way to travel and have such problems occur while on route? Bbc travel news not the best to get real time updates ... hopefully OK for Wed...

Honestly don't see how the game will go ahead, things aren't expected to ease until Saturday evening.

I've already decided to give it a miss, I don't drive and there's a high chance of trains being cancelled.

Ned there's trouble throughout the rail network today and that's before the storm! I can't take risk of trains so was using car but not worth the risk so seats going to friends that live locally...

Yes can't see many trains running, better for me not to risk it as I don't want to be stranded somewhere.

I know this isn't the case for me or you, but some people will use the weather as a decent excuse not to go!

All grassroots football matches have been cancelled throughout Cardiff, RCT and Caerphilly.

Granted some of those pitches/grounds aren't anywhere near the standard of Cardiff's ground but I doubt that those decisions were taken lightly given the loss of revenue for councils. Not mega bucks, but still some cash not going in, plus the risk of whatever maintenance will need doing after.

The 3G pitches in Aberdare were obliterated by Storm Bert - they folded like a duvet after a sleepless night - the whole lot will need scrapping and starting again as it cannot be cleaned or disinfected to a suitable level.

One of our coaches did a bit of a pitch inspection this morning and it was playable if you were going ahead today. With the forecast rain/wind - tomorrow 2pm might be a whole different ball game.

I guess quite a few games might be affected.

Not sure why people are saying won't go because riza is until end season? Nothing as changed from last game they went then and nothing changed as far as Tans involvement in club as say its simply the status quo?

Faw have now cancelled all games tomorrow

Re: Will the game go ahead?

All games called off by the FAW, but that doesn't include our game - that's a decision for Cardiff City FC, Watford FC, the EFL and local police (if it's a fan safety matter).

But won't be surprised if the club announce later today or tomorrow morning that the game is off.

Wouldn't be fair on the Watford fans if they announce it late.

Sky news reported it includes our game too.

Red warning it can't go ahead for safety of fans

They won't know yet. We'll only know when either club or the EFL announce it.

Newport haven't said their game is off yet either.

But you're probably right, can't see it going ahead.

That has decided it for me,not going to risk travelling from Plymouth for a possible postponement, will take my boy to see Argyle instead.

Remember when the underground heating fails and we cancelled the game at 11am?

I just drove down from Derby and arrived at 11am to hear the announcement on the radio. We were playing leicester so I'm guess they were just as pissed off as me.
