West Ham United can confirm striker Michail Antonio has today been involved in a road traffic accident.

The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the Club are with Michail, his family and friends at this time.

The Club will issue an update in due course.

I have just seen a picture of the vehicle involved in todays collision and, having worked at law firms (and Admiral) for over 30 years, regrettably I am fearing the worst. I understand he was airlifted to hospital and further news will follow.

I prey all who were in the vehicle go on to recover.

Definitely good news, hopefully he continues to improve.

I'm speculating but suggest his playing career may now be over. However, his own health is obviously the primary concern.

Over the years I have dealt with so many fatalities from car and motorbike accidents and from accidents less severe than this.

Michail Antonio's first words following his Ferrari crash have been revealed by a dog walker.

The West Ham star, 34, underwent surgery on a fractured leg following the accident.

The incident occurred on Saturday lunchtime as Antonio crashed his silver Ferrari in Epping Forest, Essex, which saw him end up in the passenger seat.

Antonio was trapped for more than 45 minutes as fire crews attempted to free him from his car.

West Ham confirmed on Saturday night that Antonio was in a stable condition after being taken to hospital. A further statement on Sunday confirmed that he had undergone surgery.

A statement from West Ham read: 'West Ham can confirm Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a lower limb fracture following a road traffic accident on Saturday afternoon.
'Michail will continue to be monitored in hospital over the coming days. Everyone at the Club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the football family at large for the overwhelming support shown since yesterday's news, as well as extending a heartfelt thank you to the emergency services and first responders who attended to Michail in the immediate aftermath of the incident, and the medical team who continue to aid him in his recovery.'

Terrible driver he's had more crashes before, he's lucky he didn't kill anyone else.
