Re: New Appointment
Richard Shaw was deputy assistant coach to to assistant Riza at Watford for the Under 23’s.

Cardiff Fans were informed that with in the days after the Erol Bulut sacking that these Tan, Dalman and Choo had commissioned a top European agency and 2x ex Professional Managers/Coaches to find and identify our new Manager and Coaching team.
I wonder how much they charged us for this?

CARDIFF CITY FC:

We are pleased to confirm that former Coventry City and Millwall defender Richard Shaw has joined Omer Riza’s backroom staff as Assistant Coach.

Was last involved in First Team Football as a coach in 2012.

London-born Shaw began his playing career with Crystal Palace, working his way through the Eagles’ academy to feature in the 1990 FA Cup Final against Manchester United.

He is best known for his spell in the Premier League with Coventry City, making over 150 top flight appearances for the Sky Blues between 1995 and 2001, with over 350 outings in total for the club over an eleven year period.

Ending his playing career with Millwall, Shaw became the Lions’ caretaker boss in 2007, with further coaching roles at The Den and later back in Coventry. In 2012, he spent time as caretaker boss at the CBS Arena.

In recent years, the 56-year-old has spent time coaching the U23 sides of both Crystal Palace and Watford, and worked closely alongside Bluebirds boss Riza between 2021 and 2024. In the summer of 2023, he enjoyed a period with the Canada national team, alongside fellow coach Phil Neville, at the CONCACAF Nations League Finals and Gold Cup.

Richard’s work with Cardiff City begins immediately, as the Bluebirds prepare for an away fixture at Oxford United on Boxing Day.

Welcome to the Welsh capital, Richard!

What chance he ends up being our next manager at some point?

I remember Riza was initially brought in to help Bulut.

Hopefully he can stop us shipping goals.

A fresh voice in the dressing room hopefully helps. He's certainly a coach with a decent CV so give him a chance. Personally I'd rather see an experienced manager as I don't have faith Riza can turn the tide now.

Apparently he's the player who aggravated Cantona before his famous kun-fu kick..

A great player for Coventry in the prem. Left back. No issue with us adding defensive coaches to the squad.

I’m going to be Negative Simon and Straight to the point.

We would not bring in a Quality Coach.

He has hardly any experience and unemployed for 12 yrs.

Maybe he’s spent those 12 years revising “How to be a coach” by Sir Alex Ferguson

Search a bit harder to find his last 12 years employment. Good luck Richard Shaw.

Welcome to our next Manager.

I wonder if Riza knows of his appointment, and what website Tan went on to to find someone a. Out of work b. Cheap and c. Prepared to join an absolute circus of a club?

Or perhaps we employed a top London working party to seek him out when he had gone under every other clubs radar?

That’s Accademy stuff.

What about First Team Management Since 2012.

We are so easily pleased.

A good Assistant would not work under Riza a Fact.

Shaw is an extra coach for the first team so Purse won't be going back to the 21s.

January 2013, Shaw was an under-23 coach at Crystal Palace.[18] In October 2019, the club issued a statement announcing that Shaw was to leave "to pursue other opportunities".[19] Shaw joined Watford in January 2021, working as under-23 assistant coach under Omer Riza.
