JAY BOTHROYD FOR ENGLAND ?

Sat Oct 16, 2010 6:33 pm

Dave Jones is saying they should take a look at him :ayatollah:

What you reckon, I think it is a very good shout to be honest :ayatollah:

I was only saying today that he is like an Heskey type player but Bothroyd scores goals. :ayatollah:

Well put it this way I wouldn't swap him for Kevin Davies.

Definitely worth a call up for a friendly game to see how he fares. If his head was as it was now at Arsenal he would be doing better things right now

Will he be eligible to play for Wales under the Residency rule soon? ;) :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Fraid not.

I can think of Nugent, Kitson ahead of him from Championship. Plus Jerome, Harewood, Ameobi, Carroll, Ebanks Blake who haven't had a chance in the Premiership who are above him surely.

I wouldn't put amy of those ahead of Jay with the possible exception of Andy Carroll because he's young. I certainly wouldn't swap him for a few who have already played for England, e.g. Davies, Carlton Cole, etc.

Ebanks Blake ripped this division apart. A lot more than Jay has. Nugent is better than Jay I think.

I know what you are saying about Eubanks-Blake but he is a goalscorer and nothing else. Jay has so much more to his game alhough will never score as many goals.

As for Nugent he is a different type of player, not really a target man but doesn't score enough goals to play alongside aa target man so he's a bit of a nothing player for me. He certainly didn't cause Hudson or Gypes any problems at Pompey last month.

To be fair, there aren't many better in his 'style' at the moment, are there??

Trouble is Dave is attracting attention to the fact that Jay is 'on form' and we don't have him tied down yet!!

FFS let's get it sorted before he goes to Man Utd (well, maybe Bolton Wanderers) on a free....

If I was England manager I would have him in my side all day long. Rooney needs Heskey alongside to be at his best and I would say Bothroyd while being equally as strong as Heskey has far more skill. In my opinion his allround game has improved again this year and he is maturing into a top class player and in my view would not look out of place in a top 4 Premier League side. We are very lucky to have him at the CCS. Enjoy him while he's here.

Nugent is a joke, Jay is 10 times better than him. I know Jay ent got a great goal scoring record but the guy is top notch.

My opinion is that he should be playing at a higher level, and will be next season with Cardiff going to be a prem team. :ayatollah:

Next season!! Jay has to do it consistently against top defenders. The Championship have very few decent defenders.

But would you have Kevin Davies ahead of him Annis? or even Emile Heskey (before he retired)

Re: JAY BOTHROYD FOR ENGLAND ?

The problem as i see it with Jay is his age, and how long its taken him to 'find himself'...
He's a moody type of player and could well destroy Premiership defenders. But what happens
when he comes up against fellers who dont give him an inch in a couple of games running...
Jay gets frustrated, his head drops.. he disappears. Im not saying this WOULD happen in the
Premiership, but there are some decent, wily old players up there. Could Jay stay focused
for 89 minutes and pop up to mug the fuckers off??? Hmmmmmm ;)

Sorry Annis I'm with Carl, he played in the prem when his head wasnt in the right place and it seemed that no-one wanted him! He is playing the best football of his career and i think he would do very well in the prem now

Yes, Because they could do it in the Premiership.

Re: JAY BOTHROYD FOR ENGLAND ?

Annis, Eddie Johnson plays in the Premiership

Jay Bothroyd could definately play there and keep a place in a side, the guy has found his desire and commitment and credit must be given to Dave Jones for helping to settle him down and give him the platform to succeed.

LADS LADS LADS we can settle this argument OK. Right when we get promoted and we are in the promised land next season we can all see how well jay will do in the Premier!! Until then lets agree to disagree
