A manager should be the investment not players

Fri Dec 27, 2024 1:36 pm

How often have I seen even since Sam Hammam days that we spend millions and millions on players but never invest in a top class coach. Yes we have had some good managers but on the whole especially under Tan it's the cheap option.

Why spend 2 million on one player and 250k a year on a manager. A quality manager will always get best put of the players he has and will develop them to make profit.

Tan needs to accept another mistake in Riza and get a proven quality manager in now so he has January to reshape this squad with a major overhaul in summer....relegated or not

I disagree.

A good manager can get the best out of the players he has yes, but he can’t turn Wilfred Kanga, into Kylian Mbappe.

What we need is an owner who understands football, who understands that investing in a decent manager AND investing money in much needed positions like a striker is crucial.

No point having the one without the other.

2m also this day and age is pennies, at championship level.

Of course we need a decent owner that goes without saying and since rebrand disaster he should have been driven out but he is here.
It's not just 2m though is it....turnball, Robertson that's 4m alone plus look at the 150m or whatever that's been wasted in ast 10 years. A decent manager would bring the right players in if left to control the football side.

Throwing 10m in Jan to Riza or put committee is not going to help

Slight problem with the investment of a manager? They only last average 9mnths.... in some respects it can be better being in div1 recruit decent coach like mcenna at Ipswich... howe was same they did back to back promotion using youngsters and lower league
Players who were decent for that level and with coaching got them better but nothing is garaunteed.

I agree on the striker but the side itself is decent and should not be where we are in the table. I think we did invest a bit, not a fortune but enough to compete in the top half. Although they are not world beaters we brought in some quality who have simply not performed. Chambers played for England at 19 and has never played outside the Premier League. El Ghazi was good at Villa and has played for Holland, Robertson is clearly a decent prospect and Willock was at least a useful player at Championship level. Add in O Dowda, Robinson, Ng, Goutas and a few others and this is not a side that should be joint bottom even if we have lost Ramsey and Turnball.

The fault lies with the two managers who, for whatever reason, are unable to get the best from his players.

I don’t believe that personally.

They are part of the blame of course, but the players have had it too easy hiding behind the noise that is being made and has been made about Bulut and Riza.

COD seems the only one who has any passion.

Chambers did play for England, over 10 years ago, and while he has always been in the PL, the fact that no one else wanted him suggests he isn’t that level anymore.

El Ghazi has a good spell in the PL but hadn’t played in a year, and pulling out of the 50-50 like he did yesterday shows that he isn’t interested and invested in City.

Colwill isn’t as good as he’s made out to be, and a number of players we have are sadly past it and/or just not good enough.

I’m not saying a good, experienced manager wouldn’t have us above where we are, I’m sure they would. But I still feel that even with a proven manager, we aren’t a top half team.

Think this is spot on.
