Ryan Wintle

Mon Dec 30, 2024 12:23 pm

Cardiff and Millwall remain in discussions over Ryan Wintle’s future and a potential return to the Welsh club in January following a loan spell.

Player is up for return.

The appointment of Alex Neil as Millwall manager also complicates negotiations.

Not for me, thanks. Robertson much better, and he's not going to put a tackle in to replace Sio/etc.

Try to sell.

I agree; a decent squad player but he wouldn’t make my regular team selection and we would be better off making space for players in different areas; specifically further forward

Not 100% sure why he left but stories referred to him as having fallen out with Erol Bulut on more than one occasion…?

I am in the minority and think he's a good player who fell out with Bulut.

The pass for the sake of passing was instructions from the manager, you do what you are told.

I like Wintle but he wont significantly improve the squad so if he does come back it wont add much. And that's what we need - significant improvement

Good squad player but we have better than him right now. I'd let him go.

I could see us bringing him back
as it looks like riza is doing something in the transfer window.
Its the manager riza that i would have thought most fans want replacing with a better manager,
if not we will have to go till the end of the season its all basically a sh.t show with tan saying how its going to be,
and riza will not argue against him .

I agree, he's a very good championship midfielder and probably more consistent than Siopis.

I believe we need to stop tossing around in the middle, we need grafters. There are loads of games and we need to rotate. I would follow Warnock and the attacking midfielder is a midfielder who works hard in front of 2 sitters. I didn't think Robertson was flashy but he dropped in and made that extra grafter.

This leaves Willock or Colwill as the luxury player, but that can't be a free pass either.

Wintle adds bodies and allows us to rotate, so does bringing Joel back.

It sounded like Chambers was a one off as Bagan stayed there when he went off

Ryan Wintle's Millwall future is up in the air as discussions continue between his parent club, Cardiff City, and his current club over a potential recall in the January window.

Wintle has been with the Bluebirds since the summer of 2021, when he arrived from Crewe Alexandra on a free transfer. He was a consistent member of the Cardiff starting XI for the first two seasons of his time with the club, but that began to slowly wind down last term.

The decision was made in the summer that he would be allowed to leave the Welsh capital, but only on loan. Millwall were the ones to land the midfielder's services, but his game time with the Lions hasn't been anything to shout about either, opening up the opportunity for Wintle to leave London and go back to Cardiff in the new year.

Darren Witcoop has reported that the two clubs are in talks over a January recall for Wintle, who is said to be keen on going back to his parent club.

Millwall weren't the only club said to be interested in signing the 27-year-old in the summer. He was on Stoke City's radar as well, according to Witcoop.

Neil Harris was in charge of Millwall when Wintle signed, but now that he is gone and his successor, Alex Neil, is in place, the discussions have been slightly complicated, as per Witcoop, as Neil may see the midfielder as a useful member of his squad.

If Wintle does go back to Cardiff this January, it wouldn't seemingly be with the purpose of then heading somewhere else temporarily. City's boss Omer Riza worked with the player during his time as an assistant to Erol Bulut, who was sacked near the start of the campaign after the midfielder had joined the Lions.

A Ryan Wintle return could be an interesting prospect for Cardiff -

It was made pretty clear in the summer that the 27-year-old wasn't part of Bulut's plans. Now, though, with a new person running the football team and a different style of plan, Wintle could be a helpful addition to the team.

His way of playing suits the way that Cardiff play now under Riza than it did under his former boss. Will Wintle come back and be the centrepiece of the side? Probably not. Cardiff do have a lot of talent in this area of the pitch anyway. But could he come back and be a useful asset? It's certainly a possibility.

I would have him back when he came back from Blackpool made a positive impact

Bring him back in. We are light in midfield with a couple of key injuries, the main miss being Turnbull.

His stats for Millwall

0 Goals
0 Assists
3 Started
14 Matches
409 Minutes played
6.43 Rating
3 Yellow cards
0 Red cards

I'm impressed how he's got 3 yellows; I didn't think he had it in him. Not the best stats though, are they? 3 starts?

I thought there were times Wintle played quite well. Ralls is too injury prone and Siopsis runs round like a headless chicken and I can see him going as I’m sure he’s on a decent wage. Wintle is the sort of player we might need to sit.
