In stadium VAR announcements will be trialled in the Carabao Cup semi finals, which begin next week.
The referee will announce VAR decisions to the fans in the stadium, with what he says being played over the PA system.

What difference will that make? Penalty decision yesterday at villa ref no pen var says take a look 3 mins later ref decides its a pen 3 mins to look at player putting his leg deliberately in front of defender so he gets kicked..... a decision that could have taken 30seconds ... can see it now one half fans cheering other half booing as makes announcement bad idea.

I disagree.
Went to a couple of PL games last season and the biggest issue is that fans in the stadium have no idea what's going on.
At least now they'll have the explanation.

Yes information is scanty but ihis is on a limited basis!
Fans still won't see explanations as right ....ifab dont agree with this.. but let's see what transpires never know may be a hit with half the fans

Seems very NFL like where every changed decision or one discussed among the referees is announced to the crowd & particularly the tv audience by the main ref.

To me it's an unessary add-on to the match time..... offside is offside as for penalties we know it's subjective what will change? I gave pen because he kicked him yet as saw other day players deliberately put foot in front of defender so can get pen ... fans are not going to buy into it if its against their side...

The thing is this is something people have been asking for and worked well in the Women's World Cup.
They rightly get criticised for a lot but this is at least them doing something a lot of people wanted so it's worth doing it as a trial.

Yes trial is only way know if it works... tbh women's WC is not the same as a premier league game..... but got a struggle to get ifab to adopt it. Its a good idea but like said just another add on to distract from game.... what can see is everyone screaming for other decisions to be included slowing game down even more ..

makes no difference to us.
i just want the referees mic up live throughout games
but since it will be full of swearing from angry players they will never do this.

I wasn't going to watch this game but this may have changed my mind.

So the ref will tell the crowd var decision? Is that before or after its put on screen? Not sure what difference is other than you hear decision rather than see it?

Explains the decision too.
VAR get enough wrong, think they should be commended for doing something that will improve it for fans in the stadium.

Didn't even need to be used last night as there was no need for VAR.
Will be used if needed tonight as Spurs host Liverpool, when the game gets back underway - looks like a serious injury to Bentancur at the moment.

Used for the first time tonight.
Stuart Attwell announces to the stadium that Solanke's goal was offside.
To be fair, there wasn't a lot of booing from the Spurs fans.
As a trial, that situation worked relatively well.

Well it was used but pointless in this case as it could only be solanki offside or onside after 2 mins ref said solanki offside! Well who else could be offside?
If they do this in complicated var it would be good ... Still don't think its needed every time

People moan about VAR but when they do something to improve it for fans in the stadium, they should be applauded.
VAR is going nowhere so this is the best people are going to get for fans in the stadium.
But I guess some people want to complain about it no matter what they do.

What was point of him telling fans solanki was offside? It was clearly only solanki on or off side normal use var be more than adequate in this situation...agree useful for difficult situation fans
can't see ... anyway it will carry on even though ifab won't sanction its use...

Would have been fun to have the commentary between officials when Taylor sent of Duran at villa Crazy decision making by Taylor and var......you would have thought assistant ref and 4th officials opinion mattered but no chance totally ignored...

Ned this is why fans/managers have no confidence in the system theres clearly lack of communication between all concerned ... clear reds are usually verified by var no problem with that... . but in this case it was a clear case of ref going to monitor as asst & 4th official thought was a caution
Offence Was it accidental or deliberate? Angle I saw was inconclusive Angle var used was not best Angle to view it and they treated it as clear deliberate stamp contradicting the evidence available.... also another player cheating yo get opponent sent off he clearly
moves his hand several places before settling on top leg somewhere he did not get kicked .....var is here to stay and be in championship next season or one after if at reduced level
