Omer Riza forced to do a U-turn on Cardiff City player

Tue Dec 31, 2024 11:52 am

Omer Riza had lined lined up a loan move to a lower league club for Striker Cian Ashford from the advice off Darren Purse.

But after going 9 games without a win, Riza was forced to change his tactics for the 4th time in the last 2 games.

Cian Ashford was given his first start under Riza and was to many man of the match away at Watford and outstanding.

Riza is now believed to have done a U-turn and Cian Ashford won’t be sent out on loan.

Dozens and dozens of City’s youngsters have gone out on loan over the years and virtually just disappeared.

Cian Ashford is 20 yrs old and has had nothing but excellent reviews, now is the time for him to make it in the Championship.

Riza is also thinking about bringing Joel Colwill back from his loan, but was going to send him out to a club higher up then Cheltenham.

But with No money and only able to bring in loans and free transfers, Riza is also having second thoughts there.

To me they’re men and if good enough, select them, otherwise sell them. What’s the point in loaning adult players in their 20s, I may be naive but can’t see who the loan benefits.

Exactly, not kids at this age in football.

The slight concern for me is the amount of influence Purse might be having, on players, team performance, tactics etc.

What has Purse actually achieved in his time as a CCFC coach?

He’s achieved 2 things - misery and failure. Our youngsters do not prosper and develop under him. Additionally the senior players will have no respect on his track record and if he bullies.

If you're good enough you're old enough.

Ashford did well at Watford, let's see if he can continue that.

But that doesn't mean all our young players should be kept.

Look at Rubin Colwill for example. He'll be 23 by the end of the season and has not shown that he's a consistent Championship player. If we somehow stay up, let him go.

I hope Ashford has a run of games so we can see either way whether he is the same or whether he can be consistent.

Obviously get rid of the likes of Kieron Evans as well, nowhere near good enough.

Rubin has the skill and talent but I think we need to see more aggression from him and doing the simple stuff well. He has to make a consistent impact every match and also keep the flicks and tricks to in and around the opponents penalty box.

And we've been saying it for years.

He's nearly 23 now and not shown it.

Time to get rid.

Ned,

Wow you really are Anti Rubin.

Yes he’s 22 yrs old and has made 120 Appointments in the Championship , plays in a struggling team year after year.

I honestly believe if he was surrounded by better quality players you would see a better Rubin.

Rubin is def a Championship player and in the last 15 yrs of players coming through he has made more appearances than probably all the players put together.

He is surrounded by a lot of crap

Disagree Annis, he has the odd good game but nowhere near consistent enough.

Most of the time he's invisible for us and offers nothing. Not surprised that Bellamy doesn't play him or that many managers haven't used him.

I will say he will never ever make it as a top Championship player.

Might be able to do something in League One but not this league.

If someone made an offer in January we should just accept.

Agree simply not good enough for championship hugely overrated (my opinion) and with the tricks :ugeek: he tries on the field makes me think he thinks he's better than what he is

Ashford had a bit of a bad attitude after last season’s break through, maybe that was the reason for his lack of appearances and the loan move.
As for Ruben he has all the skills but for me lacks vision,he’ll dummy, twirl, step over and beat two players but more often than not still end up going backward.
He did have his best moments along side Tanner and maybe Ashford can link up well with him.
I don’t think league one at best for him and wouldn’t sell at moment but needs more consistency.

Not sure he has any at all tbh riza is always in conversation with Tom Ramasut if you look at the touchline during games also ward seems to be very vocal

Makes me wonder how many decisions Purse is making that we don't know about that have affected the team selection or playing style.

Riza needs to tell him to STFD & STFU or to just go away.

Well Ned,

We are good friends and we totally disagree as even the Jacks want him.

He will make hundreds of Championship appearances.
