Richard Shaw

Fair play, I think he's making a difference to our performances since he came in to assist Riza. Seen others saying the same.

Oxford was the first game since he's been involved but, aside from that, he has had a good impact.

The defensive displays have been much better.

Can’t argue with that, was ridiculed by some when he came in but seems to have had a positive impact.

Definitely, and our boys are showing some bottle & fight.
Keep this up and a couple of decent signings,I think we will stay up.

According to some on here, he was useless appointment and just Riza's mate? It could be coincidence but ever since the Oxford game and his appointment the team have been gritty and are now starting to battle. If we are to stay up you have to first show some fight. Now we need to show quality in the final third too.

Thought from the start Riza needed support with other coaches .He's made a massive impact since going here long may it continue

Can't be coincidence...Shaw has made an impact

Re: Richard Shaw

Totally agree , was saying the same thing ,
He’s made a positive difference at the back and there seems to be more fight and aggressive play
If this keeps improving and we get some added quality in squad we might just stay up by the skin of teeth

He has Shaw(ed) up that defence!

Re: Richard Shaw

Sat Jan 04, 2025 7:03 pm

And not only defence tactics been changed and players positions changed like chambers... there is optimism with the last 3 performances let's hope it continues as we beat watford drew Boro both excellent results against good teams... no need ho be afraid of any team

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that since he’s come in, something has changed.
That much is obvious.

Stopped the playing out from the back at goal kicks and passing around at the back which we were never comfortable with.

Also noticed that when the opposition have a corner we often put two of our forwards on the halfway line meaning the opposition have to keep three players back.

That means less bodies in the penalty area when the opposition have a corner which means it's easier to defend.

Yep. Apparently no coaching experience since 2012. Maybe he’s got a good memory and is putting it to good use?
Was only saying to a mate earlier, it’s a bit of a coincidence we’ve changed the style and attitude since he’s arrived. We are definitely not so flappy or sloppy lately, which is good to see. Definitely pressing a lot quicker and harder. And looking livelier. Long May it last.

Let's be honest about this, we were all expecting the worst when Boro scored after 12 minutes and I for one was surprised at the difference compared to a month ago when it would have ended 0-5 rather than 1-1.

Agreed - seem to be much more resilient now as a team.

The change has also coincided with Callum Chambers being played as a DM. I wonder if this was Shaw’s decision?

Same ith Coventry down to 10men but kept on going and should have scored after this... so vast improvement

Definitely been a change since he's come in we seem more defensively solid .

I think Riza made a comment about him stepping in there due to injuries to others. But not sure.
But I think Chambers had player of the season playing in this position at Fulham.

Agree and starting at the back - Not letting in too many goals if we lose will help our Goal Difference .

Re: Richard Shaw

The best thing about Richard Shaw is that he isn't Darren Purse.

Re: Richard Shaw

Mon Jan 06, 2025 11:49 am

We're still very weak to a low cross into the box from either left or right. We concede alot of goals like this - I'd like to see Shaw get his paws on that, as he was a decent LB.

He has been an under 21 coach with Palace for 6 ,years until 2019, then an under 23 coach at Watford from 2021 until coming here
