Sheffield United are set for a reunion with Southampton striker Ben Brereton Diaz, as the Saints and the Blades move closer to finalizing a loan deal.

That's according to a Patreon report from Alan Nixon on Sunday, who describes the Chilean international as being keen on a return to Bramall Lane this month.

The 25-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with Sheffield United, scoring six goals in 14 Premier League appearances before returning to then parent club Villareal.

However, since joining Southampton in the summer for around £7m, he's yet to open his goalscoring account at St. Mary's, and now looks set for a loan move back to the Championship.
As revealed via his Patreon, Nixon reports that Southampton forward Brereton Diaz is closing in on a loan move back to Sheffield United.

Having seen his opportunities limited at St. Mary's so far this season, despite the Saints' struggles in the Premier League so far, the versatile forward is understood to have endorsed the prospect of a return to Bramall Lane.

As a result, Nixon states that this could be a deal that could be completed quickly, as it would appear both parties have a mutual interest in finalizing a temporary switch this month.

If they sign Brereton Diaz on loan perhaps they'll let us have Keiffer on loan for the rest of the season.

He can stay in the house he was having built here last time he was/wasn't/was/wasn't coming on loan to us.....

Omer Riza:

“ Sheffield United away, the approach is the same all of the time," Omer began. "We have to prepare properly to get the best result that we can.”

“I’ve been involved with the competition right through my career, as a player and as a coach. When you’re playing and you’ve got the opportunity to play in it you want to go as far as you can.

“For us this is an opportunity for players to get the chance to play, who haven’t had as many minutes as they’d like, as well as youngsters who maybe haven’t had the chance to play.

“I’m sure that we’ll be ready and think that we’ll make it a tough game for Sheffield United."

Elaborating on the difference that playing in Emirates FA Cup brings, Omer cited his desire for the squad's young Bluebirds to make an impact, as City look to extend upon an unbeaten run of league form.

“We’ll approach the game seriously as we want to win it," Riza concluded. "It’ll be two teams out there competing to win the game.

“We want to give our youngsters an opportunity, though of course it’s only the ones who are ready, we won’t just be throwing players in.

“Keeping the momentum going would be positive for us, and we’ve got to keep in mind the quick turnover to Tuesday’s match. The players know that they need to be ready for it.”

United manager Chris Wilder confirmed there is good news regarding the fitness of Gustavo Hamer after he was withdrawn during Saturday's win at Watford.

Wilder confirmed the midfielder had an issue with his hamstring at Vicarage Road and was withdrawn as a precaution, but the Blades boss announced in the build up to the FA Cup tie against Cardiff that the ex-Coventry ace will be fine going forward.

There was also an update on the fitness of Kieffer Moore who missed the weekend with illness as Wilder also hinted at changes ahead of the FA Cup tie against Cardiff City.

Wilder said: "Gus is okay, so we're delighted. Kieffer, I think he'll be touch and go. He lost half a stone. I think quite a lot of people would like to do that after Christmas! But not in those circumstances. So we're going to have to monitor how he is. We talked about a few of the boys being in the red zone, as we say, and in a dangerous place. Davies, O'Hare and a couple of others. So we're going to have to take that into account in terms of the selection on Thursday night."

Wilder stated some of the younger members of his group will be handed an opportunity against the Bluebirds as he looks to rest one or two of his senior players following the busy festive period.

He added: "I don't want to kid anyone, because we're of a mindset at this club that we want to win every game of football we take part in. U21s, U18s, pre-season, we have to have that. This is going to be a change team. I spoke to the owners and Stephen Bettis about it. Our priority is doing well in our division, and we are doing that at the moment. I can't afford anyone to suffer in the medium to long-term. There'll be opportunities for a lot of the kids, there'll be a change team, but we'll still have the mindset of doing our best and giving it a go and trying to get through to the next round."

There’s an irony in that, Allan; but hopefully the outcome will be different…!

That’s a team selection which could/should give some players an opportunity to play themselves into Omer Riza’s Championship survival thoughts; although it looks like it will be a cold one…!

Not sure how many hardy souls are making the trip to support the boys but I applauded every one…! :ayatollah:

Good save by the goalkeeper to deny Etete

Great cross by Rubin to be fair

Re: MATCH THREA " SHEFFIELD UNITED v CARDIFF CITY " MATCH TH

Thu Jan 09, 2025 7:07 pm

A decent start from the Bluebirds, who have pushed forwards and an early corner is won

The ball is sent back in and a decent header from Eteye is pushed out for another corner, which is passed to Ralls before being defended by the Blades….

Then Etete misses a ‘sitter’ to put the Bluebirds a goal up…! :(
