Or start playing them and see if they improve. We have nothing to lose as we're in a hole and apart from the last couple of games, the performances have been dire. If you listen to people that have seen this lad play then bring him back and stop the talk about him going on loan somewhere else.

A lot of those young players that Premier League clubs use have had the benefit of two or three seasons out on loan first.
Joel Colwill will be a top player but so far the only first team experience he has had is half a season in League Two.
He either needs to see the season out at Cheltenham or a League One club.
I remember some saying Eli King shouldn't have gone on loan in the summer - well he can't even get a game for Stevenage most weeks at the moment.

I don't think 17 and 18 year olds have been out on loan for 2 or 3 seasons.

I don't think he should come back to us for our first team. There is no guarantee he will get minutes and the good thing at the moment is he's playing every week. The worst thing would be for him to come back and just play U21 football.
I believe he will be a top player in the future. He's doing well with Cheltenham but the jump from League Two to the Championship may be too big and too early right now.
So I say we have two options:
1. Keep him at Cheltenham. He has the stability of playing week in, week out for the same team. It's clearly working for him there.
2. Recall him and send him to a League One club in the bottom half of the table (such as Bristol Rovers). That way he is more likely to continue to play games, whilst playing at a higher level.
Either of those two options would be good in my view.
If we keep him with us for the rest of the season then he will probably not play much or, even worse, go back to U21 football.
I don't think that would help his development.
I think he has the potential to be a brilliant player but choosing one of the two options I've listed would help his development the most.

Agree also. Either bring him back and play him 10 games good or bad to see how he goes or if only 20 mins here and there then pointless.
May as well leave him than move to lge 1 where he's not settled etc

A difficult one.
I agree that he doesn’t replace the first 3 midfielders on the list but, Ralls is injury prone and imo he’s better than Colwill senior.
If Turnbull was currently fit and not out for another 2 months then I’d agree but I’d be tempted to get him back under current circumstances.

But if he only plays 20 minutes every week that's hurting his development.
He is getting far more out of it by being at Cheltenham.
We need to be thinking long term for him. Because he can become a top player.

Devil’s advocate here but if he was really going to be a top player wouldn’t he be doing it in the championship at age 20?
If we weren’t in a relegation fight he could have a go. Should have been played last season when we were safe from relegation and not going up.

I agree. The most important thing here imo is our championship status; more important than JCs development. If his presence with us helps us survive then it’s a no brainier but it’s a difficult one to decide on that’s for sure.

I couldn't disagree with that more.
A young player's development is more important than us staying up this season.
That's sacrificing a player's entire career for short term gain.
Besides, the overall likelihood is that he wouldn't play many minutes at all for us.
We have rushed young players into Championship football before and it's backfired.
We must not do that with JC.
Leave him where he is. Gets to play every week, is scoring and assisting - so he can come back in the summer and properly compete for the first team.
