Definitely a footballer there, cracking goal too.

It's all about end product. Ashford is brave and decisive. Rubin sadly is a show pony. Looks good but his decision making is woeful in the final third. He's having his chance and sadly not taking it. If we can get a good fee I'd sell now.

Best player in a long time to come out of the academy, him and Reindorf are the best young players within the ranks

He took it well. He’s calm in the box, a good sign of a natural striker. He didn’t get muscled off the ball and finished it cleanly. He makes good decisions on the ball, too. Shown by his squared pass to Robbo the other week.

Bang on.
He's showing Rubin how it's done.
Thu Jan 09, 2025 9:29 pm
He is playing well. He slots into the right as an attacking midfielder perfectly. Works hard and has a bit of pace, strength, and composure.

Have you changed your mind about Ruben?
Thu Jan 09, 2025 9:36 pm
I agree, looked our best player by some distance. I worry about Colwill, his decision making is poor and he doesn’t seem to be learning or getting fitter, he’s not a teenage kid anymore..
Thu Jan 09, 2025 10:12 pm
Rubin Colwill would be be far more effective in a stronger side. If Cardiff go down or do not strengthen in the Summer it would not be in his interests to stay with Cardiff.
Thu Jan 09, 2025 10:15 pm
Cian is breaking out, but as usual, it turns into slagging off Colwill.
Its becoming tedious
Thu Jan 09, 2025 10:17 pm
Cian Ashford applied himself well tonight, a very determined player who will develop into a competent player but has not got the control, touch and decision making yet of a championship level player. I hope he will develop over the next 6 months.

If it's happening every week, surely there's a good reason.

But it's not just me anymore, a lot are saying it.
The reason is he just isn't as good as some try and convince themselves.

Colwill is at a different level to Ashford. Colwill has played for a struggling team for a long period. Ashford’s journey has just begun.

Well that is how this thread started, rightly or wrongly.

I was always shocked how many of our fans had it in for Whitts, so i ignore most on here.
He is not the messiah, but he doesn't need to be reminded every missed pass or shot.
I hope he does leave us, but it will be upwards if he does and not Barry town

Not yet, his confidence has gone.
Ashford uses his body brilliantly, always manages to get his body infront of a defender, which makes it an absolute nightmare for the defender.

It doesn’t do anybody any favours slagging players off on this site. The profession these people have entered is simple really, do you think they make mistakes and lose games deliberately? They know that if they don’t apply themselves, they will not be offered new contracts. The better they play the more they will earn, either by improved contract or transfer to a team who will improve their contract. Simple really, professional footballer player very short career. Aim to make as much money as possible over 15 year career if they are lucky. Why would any player jeopardise this? The ones that do are jettisoned or sign for Cardiff? Lol

I think Cian naturally slots into the right of the three attacking midfielders, we play that system and he plays it well. Most decent clubs play that as well so he will now be on the radar.
Rubin is still a project and someone will take a punt on him

I know I’m outdated saying this but I’d love to see Ashford play in a front two. Can you imaging him with the likes of a Kieffer Moore (just using him as an example so don’t shout I know we don’t have that target man)

Ruben isn’t a striker, he’s a midfielder through and through. His skill is playmaking/distribution. But he’s played in a team where it’s been a combination of negative style management (Bulut) and/or players who don’t move enough off the ball to make a pass to them. As said above, he’s not the messiah, but he’s a skilful and talented player.
Last season I used to say he needs to leave and play for a manger who likes creative and forward, front foot football. To give him the best chance to shine
Maybe that’s still the case.
Last year he was always thrown on at 60 mins or so to chase a result in desperation by Bulut. Which he did help salvage points for us.

Ashford is doing brilliantly but it was only a few weeks ago he was struggling with confidence and getting hammered on here.
Why have we got to say positive things about one player by comparing him to another!!
Get behind our youngest players and see what they can achive.
Some people just want to dig them out and I have no idea why!!
Yes they get more hype because they're home grown but so what!!
We need them more than ever in our current position!!

Untwist your panties, comparing facts isn't "digging" anyone out. Rubin should be having more impact in games via goals and assists, Cian is 4 in 5 games. Explain how that's digging someone out.
Its not personal, its fact, its a positive post and I hope to post a Rubin one in 5 games time as I'm one of his biggest fans.
You've replied in a negative tone, sulking about negativity. Shambles!

I agree. For me, "the Cardiff City way" is two up top, big man/little man. It's not current trend though, but it'd destroy some of these programmed defenders, in my opinion.

Everyone is waiting for Pep to do it then laud his genius. I think it would cause teams problems, the patterns of play are all the same. A big lad with the option of the flick on to a speedster, rather than holding off centre halfs to shield the ball.
I doubt Earnie would graduate from the academy nowadays because he couldn't do what Ashford is expected to do
Thu Jan 09, 2025 11:53 pm
Around 3 weeks ago - He was on his way out on loan

- Ashford is better than a few older players in this squad .
Well done to the Lad on his currant form
Thu Jan 09, 2025 11:58 pm
Ashford looks amazing in all fairness come in stepped up looks strong an has a final product unlike colwill over rated show pony with flicks that never come off .relegation dog fight this season .... need players who can step up to the mark !
