Do you think anyone impressed enough tonight to be in contention for the first team in the league?
I was impressed by three:
Horvath - He won't come straight in for Alnwick. But if there's an issue with Alnwick, I think Horvath showed tonight he can do a decent job. Made some good saves and was good with his feet. Took liberties when he dribbled past two Sheffield United players but I think that's just who he is.
Fish - Most we've seen of him so far and he did a good job. Him and Daland had a good game.
Ashford - Brilliant performance. Caused them all sorts of problems, especially in the first half. Great composure for the goal.

Ashford and Fish yes Horvarth definitely not he is a bomb scare of a goalie.
He is not good with his feet at all. He kicked a few straight into touch tonight and nearly got caught trying to dribble out taking a needless chance when we were winning.
The saves he had to make were routine nothing spectacular.

I agree to a point. He was solid in making saves although he does frighten me, and with the ball at his feet he did better than I remember .... however, his kicking was diabolical! The amount of times he kicked straight out of play .... I don't shout at the TV that often, but I did last night.

I agree, he holds the ball up well and is good with his feet. The goals will come for him, he just needs a run of games.

These 3 had a very good game. I thought Fish was excellent, his decision making was top class, you can see he's had premier league coaching.
I also thought Pearce did well for his first game. His movement was great and was always looking to receive the ball.

Ashford.
He showed maturity and took on responsibility. Besides taking his goal well he forced a good save from their keeper in the second half by taking it on from the wing and getting a quality shot off.

Ashford had a brilliant game and he deserves to start more often.
I thought Etete had a decent game apart from his finishing. He did add more than Kanga or Meite that’s for sure, but will he get more goals that Robinson, im not sure.
Horvath worries me when he has ball at feet. Doesn’t look comfortable and his distribution was poor throughout.
Ng I thought was poor last night.

I think Bagan is week by week proving that he can cut it at championship level. I still would like us to buy a proven left back but I'd have no problem in classing him as a good quality back up who could later become a starter.
Watched him closely yesterday and he was so assured. Didn't put a foot wrong, calm under pressure, makes good decisions. Really think he's vastly improved.

Said this before our back passes to him tend to be on his wrong side (left) which means he's always having to adjust his feet ... agree about going into touch did it when in 1st team its like a safety 1st approach if we don't get ball it it goes into touch so can't attack us... not dure much between them as anwick not exactly safe at playing out from back.

Ashford was superb. Raw at times but a definite threat going forwards with pace.
I thought Etete did well too and gave us something we’ve had very little of recently and that’s the ability to hold the ball up and stop it returning into danger. Yes he did miss a sitter (rusty) but it was a decent header.
Ng did well and was tenacious in midfield. Still a little niggly but that’s just who he is. I’d rather he was further up the park as he’s less risk of giving away penalties. His distribution and link play alongside Robertson was excellent.
All the youngsters did well although Kpakio imo struggled. Even before he took the knock he was having a torrid time and looked uncomfortable in possession. Still have high hopes he’s got a bright future ahead of him though. You can’t fault Joe Ralls’s passion or desire but he still looks leggy and was caught out wrong footed on 2 or 3 occasions. Just couldn’t sort his feet out quick enough and Rubin desperately needs to be more selfish. His footballing nouse and weak decision making is stopping him from fulfilling his true potential. Such a talented player and capable of doing things others can’t. But more often than not he just looks unfit and a luxury we can’t afford.

Ashford 100% obviously
Bagan / tanner shows they capable of squad starting or subs
Horvath obviously our no2 great on times heart stopping on others.
Fish capability of covering few positions in defence although not hugely tested last night but looked comfortable which is all he can do.
Etete on the fence played well in parts hoping chances he missed would of been in had he played more regularly
