U21 what the heck has happened to them ???

Fri Jan 24, 2025 4:29 pm

Another big defeat for our U21 side today they lost 6-1 away to Charlton, they seem to have gone from the best team in the league to the worst, and this needs sorting out quickly

Have we promoted more of them to 1st team squad So playing younger kids than age group?

First half of the season they had Ashford and Reindorf playing a lot of games so I expect losing them from the team has had an impact.

A few other U21s have gone out on loan this month too.

The U21s are there to develop our players and get them to first team contention.

Reindorf has gone out on loan and he was where a lot of goals came from.

Ashford is now in the first team, Pearce has been on the bench for the first team a few times also.

If the U21s lose a few times as they have lost players to the first team then so be it

They lost Reindorf because he came into first team training and then got injured, but he will be going out on loan anyway.

They didn't have Pearce with the U21s, he was on loan in Ireland for the first half of the season.

But agree that losing a few players has cost them in terms of results. I'm sure their results will pick up again soon.

Their results so far in January are Ipswich lost 5-1, Brentford lost 3-0, and today Charlton lost 6-1, as stated by Worcester, Pearce has been out on loan, and I agree that a couple of others have been loaned out this last couple of weeks but there were about 10 players in the squad today who were part of the u21 team that was winning matches previously.

If its not because players are missing from when results gone downhill will have to try find another common denominator to answer rhe problem.

Purse has been demoted back to the U21 and that’s seen the first team improve.
Shaw has taken his place.

Purse is fluttering between both, for me he should be got rid off.

I agree and Totally Disagree as Winning brings Positivity and belief and that runs through the Club.

Getting hammered by League 1 Charlton is absolutely worse than awful.

When they are winning the younger players get excited to play together.

It's u21s the main focus is improving players to get to a first team level or a position where they can move on for a fee. Like any other business its about getting stock in low and selling or improving its value.
Leeds for example have won 5 drew 4 lost 7 yet top of league. And before people jump on and say they prem u21 league. Some of those defeats include 4-1 to Stockport in Cup amongst others

A lot of the u21 have either been injured like Rhinedorf others have been promoted to the 1st team hence teams not as strong as it was

Both been saying it for years Annis. It's a results business therefore Purse should have gone a long time ago.

Purse does need to go.

It’s not just a coincidence that the U21s were poor until Purse moved to the first team.

Then the first team were terrible.

Now he’s back in the U21s and the first team are improving and the U21s are losing.

He's splitting his time between U21s and first team but you're right, he's a liability.

I would hope that Riza trusts Shaw more than Purse.
