A good blend of youth and experience

Tue Jan 28, 2025 6:21 pm

We’ve had an aging squad which can’t play 90 minutes consistently for a number of years.

We’ve had youngsters coming through and myself along with others have been quite vocal that we needed more youth in the team. Under Bulut they weren’t really given the chance to show what they can do.

I didn’t believe that the board had a plan, and that still stands for most of my concerns when it comes to how they run the club, but one thing seems to be moving in the right direction, youth being brought into the squad.

The signings of late have been a lot better than what we have become accustomed to.

Daland, Robertson, Fish, Salech, new Ajax guy. All young and promising.

We have seen Ashford given more of a role within the team and he’s been impressing.

Bagan has been very good since coming in, he’s also improving month by month.

We now for the first time in years have a real solid blend of youth (mentioned above) and seasoned, experienced pros who can give guidance and advice.

Ralls, Rinomhota, Goutas, Ng, to name a few.

If we can now bring in a premier league youngster on loan with pace I feel we will see a completely different end to the season from the start.

Agree with a lot of this.

Definitely seems to be a policy around bringing in younger players, finally.

For too long we have brought in players designed to be short term fixes.

But with young players like Robertson, Daland, Bagan, Ashford, Salech etc.

But I hope this doesn't mean we decide to just have a team full of young players. Important to keep players like Rinomhota, El Ghazi, Goutas etc around because you need that bit of experience.

Sunderland are known for being successful with a young squad but even they have a few experienced heads in there.
