Two Years

Sat Feb 01, 2025 5:03 pm

I think our transfer window has generally been pretty good. If we get a decent winger, then very good. Younger players who will develop and be part of our strategy going forward.
I think decisions to extend contracts has been generally ok.
BUT ….
the decision to extend Robinsons contract by 2 years I don’t get at all. Yes he has had a purple patch of scoring but his carer as a 30 year old shows that its just that…, a purple patch. And I am genuinely pleased he got the goals. But is he the answer if we want to compete near the top of the Champioship.
Just watched my team lose 7-0 and Robbo trot around with minimum effort, like a man with those old deep sea divers boots on his feet.
TWO more years - not for me.

Robbo is our best striker but he’s not a genuine no9 more of a 10

He can look good when we are on top and he has space to create opportunities

When we are in the back foot he’s not so good and can’t create much for himself

Halaand would have struggled out there for us today

Robinson looks decent when we have controlled possession and we are playing it into him with some thought.

Away at Leeds is not his game, he isn't a fighter or a poacher, and at 30 doesn't have the pace to burn over the top, in other words, you can't start him in games when we are 12/1 to win

In a struggling team, he can't be a second striker/10 / AMC as he is not aggressive enough.

In a squad game, he is OK, but he was only £1.75 million in his prime. We need reinforcements.

I got slated by someone for suggesting that he goes missing in games when we're behind & today showed how bad he can be. At one point the ball was put about 2 feet in front on him but even that was too far away from his feet for him to attempt to get to the ball & he just watched it while a Leeds player came from 10 feet away & collected the ball. Luckily for him he wasn't worse than El Ghazi who seemed to just pass the ball to the nearest Leeds player every fking time.

Yes my thoughts exactly. People were looking at his recent record and saying he is a wonder striker, and saying the Board need to get it sorted etc. In the same breath saying we need a longer term strategy.
Robbo’s overall record shows he is not a great goalscorer, and did his best in L1 with PNE.
Sorry but I like players who play with some heart and effort.
Other than scoring ( in a purple patch) his contribution is very limited (especially out of possession). He is ok as a squad player, and maybe a 12 month extension. I guarantee next year many fans will be changing their tune.

Football is all about data nowadays but to a novice like me he only scores against lower or mid tier teams when we can get some sort of parity. He is not a backs-to-the-wall player.

Derby (H), Swansea (H), Watford (A), Oxford (A), Norwich (H), Pompey (H). Plymouth (H), Hull (A), Swansea (A)

last season
Huddersfield (A), Norwich (H)

First season
Burnley (a), Wigan (a), Hull (H), Stoke (a), Brum (a)

If the big lad kicks on, not sure if he starts as he isn't a ACM

Said this in the thread the other day before he signed the contract.

He has a history of being lazy, injured or not performing.

Scored 11 this season (six since Boxing Day) when his contract is running out.

He's sorted for the next couple of years now.

I hope this isn't the start of him going back to his old ways.

I don't think it is a conscious decision he is just a flat-track bully. When against better teams and centre halfs he makes little impact.

60 championship goals and 36 assists in 262 games over 10 seasons does not make you an automatic starter.

The 4th highest scorer in the Championship playing for a side near the bottom and has scored just 1 less than Piroe who is joint second and having played 6 less games. No penalties either. Come on give the guy a break.
