Can we please stop pretending he's a top goalkeeper at this level now?
People praise him every week but I've been saying for months that he's average at best for this level.
Every save he makes are saves he should make.
Not saying Horvath is necessarily a lot better, more that Alnwick is nowhere near as good as people make out.
Tue Feb 11, 2025 8:36 pm
He should have done better for both goals and he has worried me every time we have gone back to him.
Pompey are pressing from the front and he isn’t comfortable on the ball at the best of times.
Tue Feb 11, 2025 8:39 pm
Would have kept Horvath for this one.

The goal line got gorilla glue on he hardly moves off it to catch any corners landing on the six yard line either. Yet plays as if he's Messi all floppy and half a sleep when it's passed back to him which is every 60 seconds the first half and nearly cost us with his layed back shitty kick clearance. He supposed to make saves that's his job so anyone saying but he made a save that makes no sense. That's why he's there same as any goalkeeper.

Howarth is a better shot stopper and makes the odd above-percentage save, can't do keepy ups though. Both not great on the long hack.
Need a starter next season if we are still the championship
Tue Feb 11, 2025 8:48 pm
Unfortunately both not good enough
Tue Feb 11, 2025 8:50 pm
I think we've been spoiled in the keeper department with our previous over the last few years.
Tue Feb 11, 2025 9:42 pm
All his casual bollox causes mayhem, he is not a ball playing keeper he just looks calm then fcuks it up. Just need a normal keeper
Tue Feb 11, 2025 9:43 pm
Time to drop him thats 9 goals in last 2 games.
Give Turner a go he cant be as bad as Alnwick
Tue Feb 11, 2025 9:50 pm
He makes some decent saves, but he’s just not good enough.
The most frustrating thing is how much he slows the game down.
Tue Feb 11, 2025 9:51 pm
Is it Alnwick the problem or the defence?
Either way, something needs to be done.
We are conceding goals at an alarming rate.
Tue Feb 11, 2025 9:51 pm
Said for long time he slows ball down when it comes to him which pushes opposition up field 20yrds hence we rarely win possession of his kicks ... nearly all his kicks went to touchline because forward blocked off the route to play it anywhere else... decent keeper doesn't allow either goal scored to happen.....

Every kick he made landed in their centre backs head..
Kick to the wings ffs.
I'm sure Horvarth would have done a hell of a lot better with both goals.

You mean the guy who let in 3 on Saturday? Neither of them give me any confidence but the defence is the main issue.

What do you suggest? Personally, I’m at a complete loss.
Daland has a clanger in him, Fish I’m not convinced on. Only one I have any sort of confidence in is Goutas.
Rino is strong enough to deal with wide threats. Left side could be a bit stronger, but it’s not exactly weak.

He doesn't though. He makes a dive when a shot is straight at him, it decieves people into thinking it's a good save.
He lets in more than he should.

Howarth is not great but was dropped for far less.
Defenders defend, keepers stop shots and CATCH the ball occasionally, midfielders pass run and tackle, forward run from an onside position, and shoot.
Alnwick tosses around too much and causes panic

Classic example was late on when he parried a shot that was strait at him which made him look good but in reality should have simply moved and caught it.

I have nothing to suggest as nothing we do seems to make a difference, it's like clinging to the Titanic & hoping you don't drown at the moment.

He doesn't come for corners. Always stranded on the line.Big game, Saturday that's for sure

Can’t believe they’ve offered him another 3 years, ok if he’s going to be number 2… unfortunately we need a better keeper than the ones we currently have.
Wed Feb 12, 2025 1:29 am
He was extremely poor tonight....not sure anyone is pretending he is world class. He is average and we need a better keeper for sure. I would drop him after tonight's performance. Horvath needs a run now

He only extended his contract by one year.
It was in his contract that an extra year would be triggered when he played a certain amount of games so that's how the contract extension happened.

His ball distribution is dogsbit at best also. I don't think he can land a ball on a helicopter pad from 30 meters tbh let alone to a Cardiff player.

Yep , an accident waiting to happen all night . Kicking is dreadful and ends up in some very precarious positions.
Wed Feb 12, 2025 7:35 am
I watched him very closely last night, I think he’s past it for next season at this level
Wed Feb 12, 2025 7:37 am
This passing out from the back , I know it's the new way in football but it only works if the team can pass , city have lost it by the half way line so I don't get why they don't just goal kick it at least they'll lose it in the other sides half , basics in football and we can't do it , do they pass out from the back in training with no other opposition, because surely it's not suiting the team
