Trouble in the city centre

There are reports "chaos" in Cardiff city centre on Saturday with a bus being attacked and damage being caused. One eyewitness said to "stay away from town" because it is "full of riots".

Police said they are "aware of some incidents of disorder" that have taken place in Cardiff city centre ahead of today's Championship match between Cardiff City and Bristol City at Cardiff City Stadium.

Video shows a large mob of fans clashing with police on foot and on horseback. The clip shows them swarming around the city centre at the junction of St Mary Street and Wood Street by the Prince of Wales pub. Missiles are also thrown at the pub and smash as police try to regain control.

A separate clip appears to show police trying to keep the large group of football supporters separate from what appear to be Cardiff fans outside the Prince of Wales pub.

One witness said: "Football fans are hitting our bus as they go past, a masked one just booted the door of the bus that we are on. He's cracked the glass. Bus driver has some sort of radio telling all buses to avoid town centre."

A police spokesman said: "A policing operation is in place to ensure both sets of supporters can leave the stadium safely following the match."

Just watched the video some tool has posted. All quite embarrassing some city fans taunting Bristol they turn and walk to them the city fans retreat back in to the pub. Police push the Bristol fans back city fans are hard again all of a sudden and start taunting Bristol behind police protection. What a shambles.

And we want Swansea to be non bubble

"Chaos". A few wet wipes throwing bottles and missing one of the biggest pubs in the city centre; likely a jail sentence for it also.

Same with our younger fans, giving it to Bristol fans on Sloper Road after the game because there's a police line in front of them.

This does beg the question, how would SWP cope if the South Wales Derby bubble is removed? Why weren’t the Worzels taken down the back roads to avoid St Mary’s Street? Like loads of posters have already said if you want trouble our lads are in Canton not the City centre.

I think they were brought in two different ways, they were brought along Penarth Road and as I drove upp Sloper Road I was in a line of traffic stopped by the police to allow a crowd of Bristol fans being walked from Leckwith Road into the away section, before the line of traffic I was in was allowed to carry on towards Leckwith Road to get into the stadium car park.

Over reaction by the media and it was nowhere near 400.

More like 150.

POW is the Prince Of Wales pub. The carrot crunchers stopped short of it as if there was an invisible shield protecting the six locals who were stood in the doorway as bottles rained down on them and said worzles then ran back to the safety of the police escort through town. And of course, they avoided Canton at any cost as per usual despite knowing that's where Cardiff mainly imbibe pre and post match.
