Riza: Salech is knocking on the door

Sat Feb 15, 2025 6:50 pm

Omer Riza:

‘He is knocking on the door and he’s scored three goals now. He’s coming on in games that are difficult. I think it’s good that it’s pushing Callum Robinson and Salech is definitely knocking on the door. I’m really happy and it’s a good problem to have.

Knocking on the door? Should be starting in my opinion.

He's a physical presence, puts 100% in and gets in the positions to score goals.

Has to start at Plymouth.

100% agree.

He's not knocking on the door - he's blowing it off it's hinges!

Plymouth have just signed two big centre half's.

If ever there was a game to start Salech and leave Robinson on the bench it's next Saturday.

He’s a different type of player to Robbo and would love to see them start together.

He has to start.

Robbo has done a job whilst he’s been the only one capable of doing so, but he’s no longer the only one.

Salech is a handful and knows where the net is.

Has to start.

Still got a huge amount to learn and for me he gives far too many unnecessary free kicks away

But he’s strong leads the line well and gets himself into goal scoring positions

He also rattles the centre half’s into making mistakes because of his aggression

Quickly turning into a bit of a cult hero

Everything said on this thread is correct.

Message for Riza: it isn't a battle between CR47 and Salech! Nothing is stopping you from playing BOTH as a front two apart from you, being wedded to your system of 1 semi-isolated striker.

Draws at home will NOT keep us up. We need wins. To improve our chances, we need to be front foot from minute one, not minute 46! Play 2 strikers at home, on the pitch at the same time! Stop sitting on your hands hoping for a bloody draw!

I don’t see why Robinson and Salech can’t both play together.

We could either play a straight two upfront or Robinson can play in a “wide” role.

One thing is for sure. If we do play those two we have to play Ramsey if he’s anywhere near fit. He is, still, far and away the best passer of the ball and we need that to open up teams. Play Rambo, Robertson and the new guy and let them play.

I hope this muppett picks a strong team for the Villa game, we'll get mullered if he doesn't and I'm not interested in him saying we need to keep players fresh for the league because we are shite anyway.

Pushing Robinson? They are completely different players and maybe he should consider playing them both. He may bring out the best in Robinson who has- remember- scored 11 goals

When we start with Robinson we have no outlet.

Meite on the wing gives you an outlet but his end product lets him down, he fights for every ball and no challenge is a given if it’s up against him.

Salech gives us that outlet. He puts himself about, is going down quite easily for a big guy but he will get used to what contact is or isn’t given with time. His movement is good, defenders clearly see he’s a threat and when he makes diagonal runs it causes havoc. Compared to Kanga he is world class, although Kanga set the bar on the floor

Never mind knocking on the door just play him and tell him to hit the near f*cking post because nobody has done it all season.

Knocking what door heavens door? He's playing him for 20 mins that's hardly getting close to being match ready .... we started with two wingers Saturday but no central striker to benefit from it.....
He was on the bench! Add that yo the rediculas point of spreading subs over 15mins (60 to 75 mins) when all 3 were getting ready but only rambo comes on... put what he says and does together and can see he lacks overall nous to manage a championship team!

As I have said - the Lad put's himself about and knows where the goal is .

The data sample is horrible, but...

Salech has a goal every 61mins (2 from 118mins)
Robbo has a goal every 151mins (11 from 1662mins)

Argument is two-fold. Robbo has played alot more minutes, so may be tougher/OR the fact that Salech is scoring off the bench without the same opportunity.

As said before, I'd play them both. Robbo in for Rubin, Salech in for Robbo. Take Robbo off for Rubin and leave Salech up top until form or fitness determines otherwise.

Has to start against Plymouth, if anytime we need 3 points it will then but Plymouth are doing well at moment.

Both should play as a front two at Plymouth. We should go for it and be brave, use the wingers that we now have.

Plymouth are not doing well. Barring their freak win against Millwall, they are 2nd from bottom with a -32 GD!
