" Luke Williams leaves Swansea "

Mon Feb 17, 2025 4:27 pm

Head coach Luke Williams has left Swansea City after a run of seven defeats in the club's past nine Championship matches.

Williams departs after 13 months in charge with Swansea 17th in the second tier, eight points clear of the bottom three with 13 fixtures remaining this season.

Swansea have suffered an alarming slump in form since the turn of the year, with Saturday's 3-1 defeat at struggling Stoke City proving to be his last game in charge.

Swansea were only four points outside the play-off places in ninth after post-Christmas wins over Queens Park Rangers and Luton Town.

But they have since taken only four points from a possible 27, while they were also well beaten by Southampton in the FA Cup third round.

As well as the string of poor results, Swansea endured a miserable January transfer window, with the club missing out on numerous targets, but sanctioning the sale of Matt Grimes – their captain and most influential player – to Coventry City.

Grimes' departure was a heavy blow to Williams, whose squad already had a number of deficiencies which have not been addressed.

Nevertheless, the former Notts County boss, 43, faced heavy social media criticism from Swansea fans during what proved to be the closing stages of his reign.

Williams' relationship with some supporters took a dent amid speculation linking him with West Bromwich Albion in late December.

Williams eventually apologised to anyone who felt he had shown "a lack of commitment" by failing to rule out the idea of moving to The Hawthorns.

Good enough for the smug idiot.

Royally fucked up the WBA rumours and has lost control since.

It'll be very interesting who goes there next

He was on a slippery slope after the WBA rumours but the derby hammering finished him off. If Riza had lost that game he wouldn't be at City this month. That fixture was huge for both managers. Really hope they appoint internally as I think they are skint and in trouble right now. Can easily see them free fall into the relegation fight.

The most liked comment (time of writing) on Instagram is "get someone in to play attacking football, the possession game is dead" :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6:

They'll probably try and get Cooper back in there. He'd keep them out of danger sadly.

Their fans seem to want Russell Martin back.

I wonder if it'll take them nine weeks to appoint an inexperienced member of their coaching staff?

Funny enough it was questioned earlier this week whether the age of big striker is making comeback as coaches worked out the press to stop teams... if thats case city stolen march on rivals! :laughing6:

Financially will be a big blow to them paying off Williams and his backroom staff. Have to feel for the new DOF they just brought in especially being Williams Mate

I would hazard a guess that they'll be offering a contract longer than the end of the season as well.

Williams been on shaky ground for long time fans wanted him gone 2months ago... plus the clubs philosophy of selling best players and recruiting under 23s to try and make money out of them in future....and owners doing what tan does say one thing on transfers and do another? As lead to their predicament...

Only 2 of the 12 in the bottom half haven't changed their manager in the Championship; QPR and Portsmouth.

Portsmouth is unusual as he's been there 2yrs one of longest in championship... as for qpr 15mnths is long time in championship! But as a side note they've had 20 managers in 10years!! :o but it shows the fact that not changing can work as in qpr case and not so well in Portsmouth case ... its john mousinho 1st time as a head coach after leaving Oxford as player/coach.

Heard today that Beaker has indeed been sniffing around the club and that he could be coach with the new DoF above him. This has come from a seemingly itk Jack. Great news if true as he’s f@cking useless.

I’m sure we played a part in William’s departure and it couldn’t have happened to a better bloke!

They are now looking at some ex ManUre coach after Pep Guardiola turned down the opportunity to swap his Mancurian pad for a Swift Caravan and a Coracle in an effort to bring back the (locally) iconic ‘Swansealona way’! ;) :ayatollah:

I mean he actually comes across as quite a nice bloke. Certainly the podcast I listened to the other day was sad about him losing his job.

The caravan jokes about Swansea always make me cringe.
