:bluebird: :bluebird: “ OMER RIZA UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS TODAY “ :bluebird: :bluebird:

Thursday 20th February 2025

Cardiff play away to Plymouth and can not afford to lose, but also realistically they need to Start Winning games after Only 3 Wins from their last 19 League games and 1pt from their last 9pts.

Callum Robinson has emerged as a major doubt for Cardiff City’s trip to Plymouth Argyle, while Calum Chambers and Alex Robertson also look unlikely to feature in a triple blow.

OMER RIZA:

“Joe Ralls has been back training and he’s back to being with the squad. Ollie Tanner is progressing with his injury, he’s out of his boot and he’s better than where he was. David Turnbull is training, he’s warming up with the team now. Hopefully next week he’ll be doing some technical drills.

“Isaak Davies is also training and he’s up for selection in the squad. Calum Chambers is feeling better now but he’s been out for over a week, so we need to make sure he’s in a place where he’s physically strong again. He’s not ill anymore, but potentially he won’t be involved at the weekend. He needs to get his strength up again. We have had a lot of illnesses over the past few weeks and it has gone right through the team. It’s been tough to manage.

“Alex Robertson has had a hamstring problem. He’s been training, but he’s still feeling it, so it’s too early for him. We have to manage them accordingly because we don’t want to set them back.”

“ Callum Robinson has picked up a knock.”

“Alex has had the hamstring problem. He has been training but he is still feeling it, so it’s probably a bit too early for him. So we don’t want to set him back," Riza said.

“Chambers is feeling better but he’s been out a week or more, so we need to make sure he is in a place where he’s physically strong again. Potentially he won’t be involved at the weekend.

Omer Riza:

“I thought we played well against Bristol .”

“I thought there were elements of the game I was really happy with. I think we just need to be a little bit more threatening at times.”

“I’m disappointed we let a goal in from a set play, which put us on the back foot a little bit. We made life hard for ourselves today with some of the mistakes.”

“Going one nil down and then to show the character to come back and take a point is really important. It’s a big point again - would we have liked three, yes, but we have to be happy with the point.”

“We showed the character and as promised, we improved from the Portsmouth and Leeds games.”

“The boys showed great character, the subs were very impactful,” he said. “The combination with the three that come on, I think Chris Willock was lively, Rambo’s [Aaron Ramsey] pass, Ash’s [Cian Ashford] cross and Salech’s movement in the box to score is credit to them.

“Ramsey came on, showed character, leadership and quality. It was a sublime pass, we know that’s the quality he’s got, and he made two, three or four passes like that which were key opportunities, which is what he’s good at.”

“We are getting there and improving.”

Omer Riza:

“If we win on Saturday against Plymouth, it takes us those points above them and they’re still in that bottom part of the table and they’re really having to win two or three games to go above us. It’s massive, same with the Hull game. We know how big they are, but at the same time, nothing is certain in football. I don’t want to put ourselves in a position where we feel that if we fail, there’s no comeback, because that’s not the case, but we know that they’re really important and how we’ve got to approach them. “

Plymouth Argyle’s manager is Miron Muslić, who was appointed last month.

He first stepped into coaching in 2014, as assistant manager of Austrian side Weißkirchen.

Muslic spent a number of years in the lower tiers of Austria, as manager of both SV Ried II and Floridsdorfer AC.

His first top-flight job came as assistant manager at Belgian outfit Cercle Brugge. Following the departure of Dominik Thalhammer, the former forward was promoted to manager.

During his time in Belgium, he led the side from the relegation zone to a sixth-place finish in his first season in charge.

The following campaign, Cercle Brugge qualified for Europe for the first time in 14 years, but he was dismissed in December last year following a poor start to the season.

Since taking charge at the Pilgrims, Muslić has doubled their amount of victories for the season, winning three of his first eight games in charge.

Plymouth Argyle are currently 23rd in the Sky Bet Championship.

Since Muslić took charge last month, there have been signs of improvement on what had been a tough campaign up to that point.

Earlier this month, the Pilgrims defeated top-flight leaders Liverpool 1-0 in an extraordinary victory to progress through to a Fifth Round tie against Manchester City.

Last time out, the side came from 1-0 down at Kenilworth Road to earn a draw against Luton Town.

In terms of their home record, 82.8% of the Pilgrims' points this season have come at home, as they have recorded 24 points at Home Park and five in away fixtures.

Aaron Ramsey:

“I’m really happy to be back and helping my teammates.” said Aaron. “I’ve got a smile back on my face again, and hopefully I can help towards the end of the season.

“It’s been a tough few months, so I’m just happy to be back. I had a bit of a setback, and then it was just about making sure that I was right when I did come back. I’ve missed two decent chunks of the seasons, so it’s been very frustrating on that front. I’m hoping now to have a strong end to the season and help this team as much as I can.

“I feel good in myself. I’ve played 45 minutes for the U21s, I’ve played 60 minutes in the Cup, I’ve come off the bench, so the next progression now will be to start a [Championship] game. I’m feeling ready to do that.

“I really enjoyed coming on at the weekend, back here in front of the fans. That was a nice moment for me, and I just want more of that now towards the end of the season. I’m concentrating on a week at a time, a game at a time, and going from there.”

Aaron Ramsey :

Having made his Championship comeback in last weekend’s Severnside derby, Rambo reflected on his time on the sidelines and the off-field opportunities it provided.

“I’ve had my fair share of injuries over the years, so I know how to take those moments; having the right people around me is really important.

“I’ve had to use that time wisely, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to coach the U18s and I’ve done a couple of bits for the First Team as well. It’s addictive – you definitely see the game differently. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.

“I’ve done my A License now, and I’m going to start my Pro Licence soon. The Club have been great in accommodating that and helping me along the way. It’s a journey that I’ve started, to put things in place for when that time does come.

“The Academy do a fantastic job at bringing through some great young talent. I’ve been really impressed with what they’re doing with all the age groups there. They’ve got a great facility now, and hopefully they can take full advantage of that.”

Omer Riza:

“I went and watched Plymouth at Luton and they are what they are," Omer added. "They’ve brought in some players through the team, they’re aggressive in their nature, they don’t try to play, they play forward earlier and want to play in the final third.”

"For me, I just don’t feel it’s fighting fire with fire. We have to win our battles and win the battles that they try to put on us, but we’ve got quality, we need to get the ball down and we need to play. That’ll be what we’re looking to do against them on Saturday."

Riza on injuries: ‘Joe Ralls is back with the squad, Ollie Tanner is out of his boot and David Turnbull is warming up with the team now. Calum Chambers is feeling better, Alex Robertson has a hamstring problem and Isaak Davies is in training. He’s up for selection in the squad.’
