Sounds like Aaron Ramsey expects to stay

Thu Feb 20, 2025 5:10 pm

Ramsey is one of nine players whose current contract expires at the end of the season, however there is an option to extend his deal by another 12 months.

AARON RAMSEY:

"Of course [I want to stay]. I've come back for that reason. There is a lot to look forward to next season, as well. Of course I want to play my part.

"There was a lot of things which needed addressing with the current players first. My situation is different. I'm calm about it. I just want to finish the season strongly and help this team stay in the league and we can focus on next season."

Pay when he plays deal only. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind that he’s not a money whore.

Needs to retire from international football if he's really serious about prolonging his club career.

Pay as you play deal only in my opinion.

Also some sort of coaching role within the club.

The coaching role looks like the long term plan .

^^^^THIS^^^^

Give Rambo a dual-contract that involves playing (when/if he can) and coaching at some level that will influence the direction and mentality of the team!

We should let him contribute to the club he clearly loves and maybe (but not yet) see if he can take the helm at some point in the future

We don’t get opportunities like this for a home-grown hero too often, do we? :?

Bellers was one who came back and achieved greatness on the field (could have been off it too, if our owner had been someone else) but others (not mentioning any names because Gareth Bale wouldn’t like it) passed us by!

No-brainer for me. Keep Rambo at the club and utilise him to the max! :ayatollah:

Coaching role on much smaller money I'd get that tbh. We would be mad to offer him a playing deal in my opinion. He's well past it can't even play five games in a row in a season. Got the Brian but not the legs for it anymore. Then again we do have a club that offer players contracts then send them out on loan untill the end of that same season where there contract runs out again. Bizarre

Can't see him going for pay as you play, he'd only be earning money for three weeks of the year.

But if he stays in any playing capacity, it has to be on reduced terms. We can't pay him what he's being paid now to play a very small amount of games. Even doing some coaching on top of that wouldn't warrant his current wage.

Obviously just a coaching role would bring in a lower wage anyway.

Think people are overlooking one thing? Will riza be here next season? If not a new coach could have a totally different outlook about rambo's playing future! I suspect no decision until riza situation is resolved. ...

Could say the same about Robinson and O'Dowda but they both got new contracts.

So don't think that has anything to do with it.

I have absolutely no doubt that if we manage to stay up Riza will be given a 12 month contract by Tan who will feel vindicated that his superior football knowledge has yet again shown him to be right.

Anyone who thinks Tan will suddenly appoint a proper experienced or up and coming manager if we stay up should know better by now.

If we get relegated I can see Tan keeping Riza as a cheap option and keeping his fingers crossed that we can somehow get promoted quickly back to the Championship.

There'll be no "Birmingham" style spending by the dictator to get back straight away. I would expect any player with any value to be sold as soon as possible and Riza tasked and expected to get us promoted immediately with a team of free transfers and youngsters.

Sadly I think this is spot on.

I back Riza, not because I think he's a brilliant manager, but because I think he's the best of a bad choice to be manager.

However, if we get relegated then he shouldn't stay in my opinion. But I would expect him to stay.

Saying that, I don't see us being relegated thankfully - but the whole cycle will just start again next season.

Ned the cycle will start again but the difference being that if top 3 in div 1 get promoted can't see any being in trouble next season so leaving city fighting again to stay up but as I've said previously eventually cost cutting leads only to relegation missed out couple times now buy luck will run out..
Brum rich owners ..Wrexham can attract quality.... Wycombe owner worth 4billion just a flavour of what can expect in championship

Pay as you play simply will not happen. He could leave and get a contract with another club, if he desired.

For me, this is where the club needs to be ruthless. It's reported he's on 50k/week? Even at half of that, he's a massive earner. Are we really seeing the rewards for such outlay? I'm not sure.

He's played 1 decent 20 mins this season; don't get clouded by that.

£10 grand/week with appearance bonus'. Or something like that. The past 6 seasons he's spent alot of it injured; with signs of deterioration.

He needs to stay & finish his badges because he could be the bright future we need, and he loves the club. I doubt he's on anywhere near 50k a week as has been "reported" by some & I'm sure something could be arranged between him & the club to make all parties happy.

His best playing days are obviously behind him & he's had his giant paydays so I doubt very much money will be the issue, it wasn't for Bellers & I expect the same of Ramsey. Only one person can f**k this up & we all know who that is, but if you're not sure ask Bellers why he's not here.

I’d be very shocked. Chambers 45k.

Interestingly it says Josh Murphy who left a 12.5k pw contract at Oxford for 5k pw apparently.
