Red card - yes or no?

Sat Feb 22, 2025 2:40 pm

Do you think the red card for Goutas was fair?

If I take off my blue blinkers, I think it was the right decision.

There may have been another defender back but Mumba was through on goal and would have a clear shot at goal.

For that reason, I don't think we can complain too much.

I’ve watched it back a few times and could of gone either way

Unfortunately yes it's a red card. A definite foul denying a goal scoring opportunity.

Is it a one match ban?

No diffently not. I'm biased because I haven't seen it.

Debatable but he was through, caught with a ballover the top. Vary high line.

I dunno it was close and both players went into each other, im glad i dont have to make the decision lol

No besides defender close by he didn't have control of ball var sure would have seen this and change decision.... but as we know officials in championship are awful.... so no surprise he showed red

Definitely not a red card.

Re: Red card - yes or no?

Sat Feb 22, 2025 2:50 pm

No as it should have been a foul on a cardiff player moments before.
If the foul didn't take place then unfortunately yes it's a red card, he was wrong side of him and as soon as you try a tackle and don't get the ball it's always going to be a red

Is it a one or three match ban?

One match unless there was unnecessary aggression, which there wasn't.

So one match.

Yes I spotted that too. A nudge in the back causing him to misshead the ball to a Plymouth player.

It was nothing more than a clumsy coming together no malice involved but the rules say that’s enough for a red card unfortunately

Had a perfect view as I was in the Grandstand with my boy,NEVER a red card.

Re: Red card - yes or no?

The more I look at the replay definitely not a red the Plymouth player cuts into Goutas. I’m not even sure it was a foul more of a coming together

Sorry but that's not even close to being a perfect view of any coming together happening on the edge of the area.

I had a more perfect view from my armchair complete with replays.
Definite penalty for me. He had a clear shot at goal.

Could it be worth appealing just so he can play in the hull game as I think we have more chance of 3 points in that game than the Burnley game the following week Id rather him miss villa and Burnley than hull, just a thought

Not a foul as u said as bagan was fouled beforehand. Also think it was more of the player cutting across goutas rather than trying to tackle him

He had clear shot if he shot 1st Time but wasn't in control of ball so he would have been blocked by defender couple of feet away coming in from Side ...... maybe ref didn't see other player as was to close to distinguish between city and plymouth player?

2 players coming together and that’s it , 100% no card , not even a yellow for both players , both players came together, very very harsh

O’dowda wasn’t close enough, in fact he was drifting away thinking Goutas had it covered. Would never have blocked a shot or tackled their player. So as soon as the ref gives the foul he has no choice with the card

Harsh, he made an attempt to play the ball

But he failed and fouled their player instead.

Re: Red card - yes or no?

I’m k I thought it was two players coming together and ok if you wanted to lean one way at you could say Goutas was more heavy handed but he is a bigger player.

I think the key thing is the player was not past Goutas, he was level and had a lot to do if Goutas hadn’t made the challenge. Unbiased freekick and yellow…

Ahh well shows the interpretation is wide on such matters I thought o'dowda was close enough to stop him controlling ball so effecting his ability to shoot? Not sure why o'dowda would drift from ball but then again nothing surprises me regarding our defending...

We would have been upset if the roles were reversed & their player stayed on the pitch.
