Ramsey

Sat Feb 22, 2025 9:16 pm

This is something I didn't understand today.

The last couple of weeks Riza has been saying that we need to be careful with Aaron Ramsey and manage his minutes, something I agree with.

But today he played him for 105+ minutes.

I get why he was tempted to, we were holding on for the draw and Ramsey has the experience. The fact that Goutas was sent off and Bagan had to come off injured probably also had an effect.

But I hope we don't come to regret this.

Managing his minutes is key to keeping him fit. It's generally accepted that Bulut made him play 90 minutes too often and that contributed to his long term absence.

He is still top quality but we have to look after him.

For that reason, I would give him the night off on Tuesday. It's a big game, but we can't make him play too many minutes in a short space of time.

100% agree.

Bulut was heavily criticised (rightly in my opinion) for flogging Ramsey at the start of the season and I was also very surprised to see him play the whole game today. Was Ralls on the bench?

Yes - Ralls was on the bench and could've come on.

I don't get it either - Rambo was flogged today! If Riza plays him on Tuesday, I'd guarantee he'd pick up an injury.

I was surprised as well. Total rest or on the bench Tuesday just in case we need him to come on for 10 minutes.

Riza has already said Ramsey will never play Saturday Tuesday Saturday so I think he will be rested Tuesday and we can go with a Ralls mannsverk Robinson trio (I would have said chambers instead of Ralls but if he's fit I think we may need him to fill in at center back) with salech up top

I would have preferred Ramsey to play 50/60 minutes today and then bring him on for the last 20 minutes or so on Tuesday.

We don't need him on Friday at Villa, because it's a game we know we're likely going to lose so no point risking him there.

There must have been communication with Ramsey and Riza.
Ramsey wont play 3 games this week. There's a cup game.
We haven't got many games left to save our skin

Yea I 100% agree, even coming off the bench for 15 minutes against a tired defence he can unlock things as he thinks 2 steps ahead of anyone else on the pitch, I'd much rather use him sparingly across most games than flog him to death for 100 minutes like today and risk losing him for the rest of the season

We're lucky he was on, as he was the only one to read a run in like minute 108 or something where he tracked a smart run where others were oblivious.

Tracked back and last ditch tackle to prevent a 1on1.

I agree though, it wasn't a 'Ramsey game' after we went down to 10.

it did seems strange Maybe the data coming from the tech they wear during the match and talk between manager and player showed he was physically ok. And also based that we know he is unlikely to play on Tuesday.
However i would have preferred 60 mins yesterday and in the bench on Tuesday if needed

Needs to be used more sparingly.

Re: Ramsey

the question is do we start Ramsey on Tuesday or bring him off the bench in 2nd half, the position we are in I think we need him on the pitch at sometime for his experience

Re: Ramsey

Ramsey not how he is feeling and I am sure he would have communicated to Riza he was feeling ok.

Re: Ramsey

I think if he feels (recovers) ok from yesterday then we will see him at some stage Tuesday. And then guessing nothing against villa with the Burnley game would be 7 days off after Hull for him

I think hes been good in the games he's played .

On the bench Tuesday & if he's not used same again against AV, who I'm sure will play a weakened team against us as will we.
