Which players in our squad

Tue Feb 25, 2025 12:21 pm

Are good enough for a top 8 team?

In my opinion there are very few.

Potentially Robertson, Chambers if he is played as a CDM.

I really don’t agree that our squad is good enough for a top 8 finish, as has been banded about recently.

There have been threads about almost every player saying they aren’t good enough.

There have been threads about Horvath, Alnwick, Ng, Daland, Bagan, Tanner, El Ghazi, Ashford, Colwill, Robinson, Meite, Rinomhota, Ralls - all saying how they aren’t good enough, some of them even being labeled as L1 standard.

So how are we meant to believe that the squad we have are capable of top 8?

That to me is just a way of trying to pin the blame on Riza.

Bristol City are 8th at the moment.

I don't they're a brilliant team. They get solid results which is why they're there, but

Saying that do I think we have many players who would walk into their team? No, I don't.

This squad is exactly where it is. A bottom six squad.

There are a few players who could do well higher up the league when fit - Robertson, Mannsverk, Ramsey etc.

But as a squad, this is nowhere near top eight.

I think I'd agree that we don't have the squad for a top 8 finish but I don't think it's a bottom 6 squad either.

We have a number of current or past international players - Ramsey, Robinson, O'Dowda, Goutas, Chambers

We have a number of players with vast Championship experience including promotion to the Premier League in some cases - Horvarth, Ng, Ralls, El Ghazi, Rinhomota, O'Dowda, Robinson, Meite, Willock.

We have some decent loan players who are certainly better than one place off relegation in Alves and Mannesverk and at last we have a striker who knows where the goal is in Salech.

We have some decent youngsters in Bagan and Ashford and of course Robertson.

Injuries, lack of form and suspensions have been major difficulties this season but I cannot accept that the squad we have should be any worse than a comfortable mid table finish if Tan had appointed sensibly after sacking Bulut instead of just going for the cheapest option.

Hard to argue against anything you've posted but I would say the squad looked far weaker before Christmas. No striker, lots of injuries etc.

January has definitely improved this squad.
